omg thats awful, i thought tescos was quite bad, maybe some convenience in it, but i would never buy a hat from somewhere like that, maybe jods or maybe a crop, but gaud no not a hat! I mean the reason they are so cheap is probably because they're probably made cheap, if they're made cheap theres no point in buying them becuase they're not gunna do the job, it wont protect you.
I dunno, i guess theres good intention in it

Their hats are BSEN1384 standard the same as Tescos. A friend of mine bought one from Tescos for her two kids to share as they can be adjusted - hence the small, medium, large sizings.

I'm kind of glad places like this are including equine stuff in their sports section - hopefully it will start bringing costs down.

Hmm,on one hand I dount the quality is much good,on the other it might make horse riding seem more open to "normal" people which has got to be a good thing.

I dont think its a good thing, like supermarkets etc it puts the little buisnesses out of buisness soon specialist shops wont exist and everything will be bought online or at a supermarket or a buy anything shop such as argos.

ho hum... and breathe.

I got a lightweight turn out last year from Tesco it was in the sale and was down to £12 I got it with the weekly shop! I thought for £12 if it only lasted a season then that was OK, the fabric seems the same as the old leaky Weatherbeeta rug i have, the buckles the same too and fits the horse a treat! Nice an deep too! So much so that 3 other liveries got them, although it looks a bit samey if we all put them on at the same time! I also got a fleece for £8.

To get my old turnout rug cleaned and re proofed would cost more than £12. Sorry if I am affecting small businesses but I am on a tight budget so as they say 'every little helps'! BUT if the rug had been at it's original price, close to that of a branded rug e.g. Weatherbeeta then I would have gone with the brand that I know.

Don't know about the hats though I am a bit fussy re hats and like my Charles Owen too much to try another brand now! Also fussy about tack and the quality of the leather so there's pros and cons to it all, also I love looking round tack shops so I doubt I would ever let the supermarkets etc take the place of the local tack shop.

My daughter got one of those grooming axes free with a magazine I think - she never uses it - it's very strange - not sure really what the edges are for!

Hardly.
How many horse owners would buy from Argos over their local tack shop?
They never did make a hell of a lot of money from a RS rider buying a pair of jodhs, hat and boots maybe once a year so wont lose out on much.

I remember starting out thoough,I was 15 by the time I was able to work for rides and get riding properly. The tack shop was very daunting,tesco's/argos is'nt so it *should* encorage more people to take it up.

What's so terrible about it? Talk about snobbish.

Anything that makes horseriding seem more accessible is a good thing IMO.

the prob is people in supermarkets might not have a clue, how can they advise people especially those who are new to the world of horses who may be lead to believe information that is incorrect

just had a look @ site & tbh the prices arent that good anyway. i buy shires rugs from local tack shop & they are competitively priced.

argos sell their fleece for just under £20 whereas i can get a Premier equine one for a little more i know which id prefer. i can also buy a lightweight turnout for less than they are selling them!
