I bought some Ariat boots and gaiters last year which were obviously pretty expensive, I keep them for best, and only wear them for comps so they haven't had all that much wear. The popper thing at the top of the gaiter has broken and the zip has gone on on one of the boots :-(. I got them from a trade stand so can't easily take them back to where I bought them and because I've had them a while I don't think Ariat will exchange them even though they've probably only been worn around 30 times.
Any ideas about getting them replaced or repaired?

If you have an original receipt I would copy that as proof of purchase and date etc and send them back direct to Ariat, they replaced my boots completely when my zips went after 3 months so definately worth a try, you've nothing to loose, just make sure you send them by tracked mail so you have proof of delivery etc. I have always found them very good and prompt to deal with.

I got in touch with Ariat (email address from their website) last week about replacing a popper on one of my gaiters. They are fairly new (a few months old) and they have told me to send them in (freepost) and they will repair free of charge and post them back for me. :) Not doing it until next week as need them this weekend, can survive without the popper until then! ;)

Would be worth asking them, if they've only been lightly used, then they will be able to see that.

The zip went on my boots and they replaced them immediately, even without a receipt. I had used them for a couple of months as well but having paid £160 for them, I hoped they would last longer!

I am another one who has had very good service from Ariat. Have sent back via freepost (but ask at the post office if you are insured for the full value of the item when doing this), and received chaps/boots back very quickly. Admittedly haven't been impressed that new items have broken as they certainly aren't cheap, but the customer service keeps me buying them

I had some ariat boots and gaiters. The boots never lasted longer than 6 months, the leather would crack and get holes around the base of my toe area, where my foot bends in the stirrup. 2 seperate pairs barely lasted me a year. The zips were a nightmare and would break really quickly too. The zip went on the back of gaiters after about a year which made me a bit upset. I didnt send them back as I thought perhaps I had brought them too long in the past.

I think Ariats are good for best as they are soooooo comfy and look beautiful but I dont buy them to ride in every day like I used to, they just aren't up to it. They cannot cope with the wear and tear.

Ive brought a pair of much cheaper Dublin jodpur boots and a crappy pair of chaps and they arent particualrly flash looking but they are in perfect condition after 6 months of riding in all the worst weather, typical!!

I've found the zips in Ariat boots just don't last at all, which is a pity because I really like them. With my last pair the zip went after 3 months with my foot still in the boot, so I had to cut the boot off my foot with some scissors. Ariat would not replace them as they said I had deliberatly damaged them by cutting them. Next time I know i will have to cut off my foot to send the boot back to ariat to make sure I do not cut an already broken zip!!!!!

A zip in my ariat joddy boots has also just broken! I have hardly worn them with all the bad weather and then tote was ill so im not impressed!

charlimouse- I nearly had to cut mine off so i'm glad I didn't, I got stuck in them for ages!

I have sent an email to customer services but with it being bank holiday I wont hear back from them untill tomorrow/wednesday.I have lost the receipt for them but hopefully they will repair them or exchange them as they are faulty and you don't usually need a receipt for faulty items. I will let you know how I get on :)

Sounds like Ariat have cut down on quality as both my boots and gaitors are still going strong 7 years on and they've had some heavy use at times.

Shame they're no longer lasting as they should be :(

I had terrible problems with Ariat last year. The leather and zips went on a pair of boots within 4 months of getting them, but Ariat refused to repair/replace them. The boots were regularly treated with leather conditioner, and were not subjected to muddy/wet conditions.

I was really disappointed as they were incredibly comfy and very smart - but i've seen gone on to a different make of boots as I can't justify the money for them if they're not going to last very long. It seems that these problems are quite common for Ariat boots since they moved the factory to China (or so I was told), whereas before they were seemingly of excellent quality and lasted ages!

My year old Ariats and gaiters are in superb repair.

The boots are worn daily and for dog walking (think wet salty dunes walking) and they are still as good as the day they were bought.

What a shame everyone isn't experiencing this level of quality.

My Ariat boots and gaiters are also lasting well. They are coming up for 2 years old and show no signs of cracking or excessive wear however I am careful about not getting them wet if I can help it.

They get ridden in everyday (on 4 or 5 horses) but I take them off for dog walking, catching horses from fields etc etc and put an old pair of boots on instead (or my Ariat glaciers when its very cold).

I'm sure this has made a huge difference as before that I couldn't get them to last more than 6-8 months (leather would split at the base of the toes) though I have to say i've never had a zip go in the 7 or 8 years I've been using Ariats.

Grrrr I am fuming! Here is the responce I got today:

I mentioned in the email I sent them that I bought them from Burghley and after looking on the internet it turns out the shop is sooooo far away! So I gave them a ring and they wont do anything without the receipt so looks like I am going to get nowhere with them which is so annoying as I only bought them as everyone says how good they are and how long they last as I normally just have the cheaper toggi ones! The most annoying thing is that I work in customer services and know about returns and at my work we follow the consumer rights act which says faulty branded products have to go straight back to the manufacturer (not the shop you bought it from) and can be returned without the receipt if they are not fit for purpose so im not really sure what to do now as I don't really want to buy another new pair of boots but it looks like I don't really have a choice!

Actually under Trading Standards, Consumer Law and the Sale of Goods Act, your first point of call is the retailer, not the manufacturer/brand name.

http://www.consumerrightsexpert.co.uk/FaultyGoods.html and http://www.consumerrightsexpert.co.uk/shop-manufacturer-responsible-for-faulty-goods.html

I work within retail too :) If they want proof, just get your credit card/bank statement - that should be good enough :)

I am having a good hunt for the receipt as I dont think I used my card as I had some birthday money which is typical! That was very intesting to read too as I do understand you are supposed to contact the retailer first but we usually give them the contact details for the manufacturer and then it is sorted out between themselves so I will have to have a look through the big legal pack tomorrow at work as I can't see me getting anywhere with them which is really annoying! Thanks for the advice tho :)

I had Fantastic service from Ariat sent off my leather gaiters as the zip broke, I didnt have a receipt as had them over 6 months and they send a brand new pair back a few days later! I was expecting them to just mend them but got new ones which was an added bonus!!! . hopefully they will replace yours as they are not cheap!
