Don't know if this has been discussed before, so apologies if it has! Was just wondering if anyone has had problems with Ariat boots, every single pair I have had have fallen apart. 2 pairs of terraines stitching fell apart, Grassmeres split across top of foot, Paddock boots zip went and again leather split across the top of the foot, every single pair has been knackered within 6 months, considering the amount they cost I would expect them to last alot longer, phoned Ariat to complain and all I got is do you muck out in them? yes, well thats the problem its your horses urine, er hello they are boots made for peeps with horses. Needless to say they ain't getting anymore of my hard earned cash!

Yeh I have. Both the last pairs I have had have gone all mushy on the soles - I can feel every dtone underneath! Although I muck out in mine so there probably lies my problem! I too won't be purchasing anymore - shame because I find them really comfy (when not mushy!) to ride in & around the yard.

My Ariat boots are too expensive to muck out in - I have a pair of cheap and cheerful Dublin jodphur boots for summer mucking out, wellies for the winter. I only wear my Ariats for riding in - my first pair lasted for about 10 years and only died because they met my puppy :( - my second pair are several years old, faultless and incredibly comfortable.

I have 3 pairs of ariat boots and I love them. I have a brown pair for everyday riding, a black competition pair and a pair of grassmeres. My brown pair are about 8 years old and still look like new. However, I dont wear any of them for mucking out x

I have two pairs of paddock boots. My everyday pair are the lace up ones (I had heard of people having issues with the zips), and my smart pair are with the zips.

I also don't muck out/do stable duties in mine. They are for riding only. I leave them at the yard and always change into trainers or wellies straight after I've finished riding.

There's probably only so much they can do to make them withstand urine/muck etc.

I have had quite a few pairs of Ariats over the years, including the Grasmere which I regularly mucked out in. They lasted me 2 years of daily wear which involved mucking out, crossing a river to get horses in, winter mud etc etc. 2 years seems a good time considering I have had every make of LEATHER boot on the market (hunter, le chameau, musto, dubarry) The longest any other make has lasted me is 6 months & every time I have complained I get told it's down to horse urine which is a load of absolute nonsense. DuBarry have replaced boots 3 times for me, the latest pair leaking within 3 months during a time when I did not muck out as my horses were turned out.

IMO Ariat are the best so it seems like you have had a really tough time with yours. I would push their customer services a bit more & try and get at least one pair replaced.

I have the hertitage short boots and chaps and I do love them, but they do get "Tatty" looking quite easily, and my zip bursted in th epair but that was after a year of riding in them every day. What I was most disappointed in ariat themselves was I wanted the long leather insolated boots for compitions, but I have short legs, didn't hink would be a probelm as assumed they would do differnt lengths like their chaps... but no they only came in standard length which were two long for me, gutted!

No leather boot will withstand mucking out for very long as the urine dries out and cracks the leather. You can prolong their life a bit by cleaning them regularly and using loads of polish to protect the leather, but at the end of the day you're better in wellies or a cheap pair of trainers to muck out.
Generally Ariat are quite good at customer service if it is a problem that really is their fault - I know the earliest Bromonts were prone to splitting down the zip and they replaced those etc.
They are nice boots, you just have to be disciplined enough not to abuse them!

If found that they ARE only good for riding in. I used to have them as school shoes (yep, really - saves my mum forgetting my riding boots! :p) and found they only lasted a short while as the soles wear out really fast if you walk in them too much! :/

My first pair of Grasmeres are coming up to two years old now. They have been worn at least 650 days, often for more than 12 hours at a time. I muck out in them, wade through mud in them, walk around in them, ride in them, drive in them - everything really. The leather has cracked and split (but they are still waterproof) and they look well used - but they ARE well used because they are so damned warm and comfy!

I liked them so much I went out and bought my daughter a pair of Glaciers and since then I've picked us each up another pair when I found them cheap on ebay. They are for when the first lot are worn out - and I've bought my husband a pair of Rydales (new, for less than half price, ebay) which he abuses happily.

I have the Grasmeres and the older Heritage zip ones and both pairs are grand considering the abuse I give them! I wear the Heirtage ones more during summer, but do use them muckig out, working out in fields etc. They clean up well even after 3 years.

My Grasmeres get the real abuse! I wear them alllllll the time in winter. Riding, mucking out, walknig the dogs, going shooting etc I got them 3 years ago and I've never cleaned or treated them. And they are still fab. I love the and would definitely buy another pair. Now I'm off for summer with no job I might actually get round to cleaning both pairs :p

I loved my ariats and wore them all the time for about 4 months, (no mucking out) after which I would go lame on my left foot after wearing them for only an hour...?!

I have since had problems with my feet though, so can't be sure if its the boots' blame or my wonky tootsies! Certainly no other shoe or boot hurt like that though.
