Ariat Clothing/ decent coat recommendations please

I am looking for a new decent quality waterproof coat. I have lots of Ariat boots but never coats or clothing. Are they worth the money and what is the sizing like? My last coat has been going forever but finally given up. I’ve looked at Musto too but they are so expensive.

I have an Ariat and it’s amazing!! I would say sizing is slightly on the large size though. But I like that so I can fit layers underneath. It’s very well made, comfortable and keeps me 100% dry. Love Ariat! X

I have had an Ariat and I did like it but it lost any waterproof qualities it had long ago. I have a Musto now that I got in a sale at Mole Valley Farmers a few years ago. It is warm and wind proof and seems to be waterproof still whilst I have it on but it takes ages to dry as it soaks up the water when I take it off. I bought a thin Horze water proof 3/4 length jacket this Autumn which does definitely keep the rain out and dries easily but you need to pile the jumpers on under neath if it is cold. Personally I think one needs more than one coat !

I have both, both quite old. The musto wins hands down.

I have an Ariat Madden coat and it is superb. The sizing is true to size but roomy enough for layers underneath. It is beautifully made and fitted and the skirt part spreads out when you ride to cover your legs and saddle but when you are standing it isn’t bulky at all. Best riding coat I have ever owned and I’ve been at it a long time!

Never had Ariat coats but I find their boots trusty and waterproof if sold as such. I wouldn't recommend Toggi as my waterproof coat, new last year, has failed several times and is showerproof at best. I have just invested in a Pikeur jacket and it's truly waterproof, it paid for itself last weekend keeping me bone dry in that 24hr deluge.

I have Musto and Ariat coats. Love both, but the Ariat Madden H2O is perfect for riding in winter. It's on its 2nd year and still looks like new.

True to size, anything that says fitted tends to be snug.

Musto are far superior, beautiful fit and last forever. Given Musto are first and foremost a company that services sailing, they really know their outwear.

Ariat are a great mid-range product and their quality varies greatly. I won’t buy their boots anymore as they don’t last. But their sunsafe tops are best in the market.

I was disappointed that I needed to replace the feeble zip on my expensive Musto long canter jacket in less than a year. A lot of otherwise good brands seem to use terrible cheap zips these days. I’ve a North face jacket with an equally crap zip.

I’ve had good wear from my Pikeur jackets.

I’ve recently bought an Ariat Sterling H2O, which is lovely. It’s not as long as the Madden, but I’m planning to team it with a riding skirt for the worst of the winter weather.

I loved my Ariat coat. It was always warm and up until I sent it to be cleaned, was totally waterproof, even when out in heavy rain all day.
Eventually the zip broke and that together with the fact it wasn’t as waterproof meant it went in the bin. I still haven’t found its replacement so am watching this with interest.

eta - Can anyone recommend a warm Musto coat that covers my behind. I’m a cold person and the ones I’ve seen are really quite thin.

Musto are far better and will last longer! As others have said they are sailing jackets (you WILL get wet haha)

I love my ariat boots but for an actual warm, wind proof jacket go for a musto!
They are expensive but they are worth it in that you won’t be constantly replacing them and you can reproof at home. The blouson jackets are great for all weathers and dry quickly.

Picked up a Dublin Black range coat in a local sale and its fantastic. Loads of great features - underarm zipped vents so you don't get sweaty, best idea ever - and is proving to be superb in bad weather. Loads of places have them on sale currently. Sizing is generous too.

Another Musto fan - I got a Corsica jacket in the sale and it has been my best investment, truly waterproof and flattering. Musto do last well.

Having recently ordered a load of Ariat jackets (including H2O) and sent them back I'd say 100% Musto over Ariat. The quality of something like a Musto Corsica is far superior. All the Ariat ones had loose threads, etc. and felt a lot cheaper. The Musto is fantastic.

I have to say (even though I LOVE ariat styling) their clothing isn’t great quality; caveat emptor....I still buy it though!

Not padded like a puffer, but yes, it has a soft, fleece layer inside that keeps me warm. It's still very lightweight and doesn't restrict movement. That's my big bugbear with winter jackets. I've tried to take a photo for you but I keep getting an error message saying the film's too large even when I shrink it right down.

This. I’ve a musto jacket- years old and still going strong. I also bought a pikuer jacket more recently as a smarter coat - wont last anywhere near as well. Similar prices, but musto wins hands down.
