I was given some lovely Ariat Grasmere boots for my birthday at the weekend, but before I start getting them muddy and wet, I wanted to know if anyone has any good boot care tips.

I intend to use them as both wellies and riding boots, by hosing the mud off before riding. Is that fine?

Also, how do you store them when you're not wearing them? Do you keep the trees in, or are they OK without?

You need to get some Ariat Liquid Wax Conditioner, and some Ariat polish.

Once a week, give your boots a good clean with water/cloth, leave them to dry completely then apply the Wax Conditioner. When it is dry give them a good brush. Then apply the polish and brush off when dry.

Got told all this by my local stockist after she had been to an Ariat course. Nowhere online can you find out from Ariat exactly how to look after their boots!

Mine are 2 years old. I clean them with the ariat stuff...( be warned the wax is really hard to apply, found I had to microwave it to soften it) once a year ! I wear them all the time, both in and out the stable and poo picking in the muddy field, as well as riding. All I do is rinse them off with a hose. I always put the trees in them when I am not wearing and have found they have kept their shape much better than my friends (who doesn't). You'll love them, especially in the winter when you will not have cold feet :D

That's great advice, if I can get the boots on! They were OK in the shop, but when I went to put them on the other night, I ended up reverting to my old boots! My Grasmere's are a bit tight around the ankle at the moment, even with the laces loose. Do the ankles give with time? They were fine once I'd got them on in the shop, but obviosuly it's easier getting boots on sat down in the shop that in the dark, trying not to fall in the mud!

Might have to try getting them on and off at home first I think!
