Ariat Heritage Contour Half-Chaps Sizing?

Hi,

I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with the sizing of the Ariat Heritage Contour Half Chaps seeming to not be correct?

I am aware that the chaps are obviously leather, so therefore will be more ‘rigid’ initially. However, I ordered the XL, which has a stated measurement around the calves of 17.5”, but when I measured them at their widest point they came up as 15.5”, which is obviously not ideal (being 2 inches less than stated) and has meant that the chaps are nowhere close to fitting me. In comparison, I have a pair of very old Saxon chaps in a size ‘L’, which are very close to fitting me again (by less than an inch), and that is concerning in itself as, due to the sizing of my legs and the fact I used to wear these chaps when I was a clothing size 10 (currently slightly bigger), it means I will likely never be able to wear Ariat’s chaps?

I would appreciate it if anyone could share their personal experience with this, as due to the very fact of being a horse-rider (and also relatively tall) my calves are never going to fit in what seems to be incredibly tiny sizing. So whether this is truly the sizing of these chaps, or some kind of manufacturing error that is a ‘one-off’, or whether the leather needs to be worked/stretched for it to be true to size?

TIA!

I’d be asking Ariat direct as two inches is a huge discrepancy.

I find their long boots are not overly generous calf width wise either, almost like they forget riders will have calf muscle!

I have Concords and had them maybe for 12 years and probably on my 5th pair and not noticed any discrepancies. I have gone from a medium to large 😫 with age though. The quality has definitely gone down though as current pair have a hole on inside which never has happened before as usually the elastic goes on bottom as rots with age.

I bought them from Redpost, who are appearing to be very helpful regarding it. They have stated they will be checking the replacement chaps they have ordered in before they are sent out, as I attached a picture of the chaps against a tape measure, and it appears they agree it’s a large difference. 2 inches is a bit ridiculous in my opinion, which is what makes me think it is some kind of manufacturing error. I naturally have large calves, as I stated in my original post, and they do seem to forget riders have calf muscle!

Ok thank you, I will look into them if I still have no luck with the Heritage Contours. I think quality has unfortunately plummeted with a lot of things, both equestrian and non-equestrian, but prices have gone upwards.

I’ve just bought a pair of Ariat chaps (can’t remember if they were Concordes or contours) and I got them in a small, regular.

I have pretty skinny calves compared to length and I’ve not come across a pair of long boots that aren’t loose on them so they maybe do run small.

I will add I’ve not really looked for long boots to fit but ones I’ve tried haven’t.
