Need some new wellies as fed up with my hunters. Am considering the three makes above. I don't want anything over warm as wear them all year round so not neoprene lined etc. Just want something that is not too big around the ankle and that don't leak.

The barbours look a very similar fit to the hunters but I did a search on here and could not find any comments about them

Thoughts please?

I've got the Ariat wellies - and I do like them

BUT I am now on my 3rd pair (others have been replaced by Ariat) because the rubber has split around the foot and also half way up the leg.

As much as I do like them, they are really comfy, good sturdy sole, warm - but not too warm, good fit etc etc I am getting fed up of them splitting, and always in the same place. I am wearing the latest pair that came as replacements from Ariat - but I shan't be bothering again with them, as it's just such a nuisance when they split.

I will look forward to hearing others replies on the other makes though :)

Barbours are pretty much the same as Hunters, if a bit narrower in the leg, Hunters are chrap now and do not last.
Ariat Mudbusters are quite heavy duty, no good for riding as too clumpy, but quite a good fit round the ankle compared to some, good adjustable side. They are very good value for money and last ages.
Le chameau are expensive but you get what you pay for, I wouldn't go for the cheapest ones as they are not as good as the more luxury ones, which will last.
I work in the industry so have first hand knowledge!

Happy shopping!

I have hunter balmoral sovereigns which are chamois leather lined and lovely!!! They have been going for 5 years now and still have no sign of wear! The best bit is they have a zip down the side for easy on and off :) They stopped making them for a few years but you can get them again now :) They also do them neoprene lined...

Edit - and the zip goes all the way to the ankle unlike a lot of the other makes...

Coop- I like the style fit of the Hunters just not that they leak, so do the Barbour ones leak or are they ok?

I like the look of the Le Chameau country lady ones (unlined approx £70) also because they are not as chunky as some of the others look.

I am quite skinny around the ankle and calf so do not want anything too bulky.

3DE - Thanks, ideally i don't want to spend that much really though. Up to around £70 would be alright.

Le Chameau gets the thumbs up for me. I bought a pair half price about 6 years ago and they have only given out this winter. When I say, given out, the sole has become so worn that you can feel every pebble underfoot. They are extremely warm, comfy and neat fitting on leg. Horribly expensive to replace at over £100 but I will probably bite the bullet and buy another pair before next winter as they lasted so well.

Just to throw another one into the mix - Aigle. Comfiest wellies I've ever known, same kind of price range as the others if you want unlined and don't fall apart and leak like Hunters!

I swapped from hunters to Mudbusters about 6 months ago and I'm very pleased with the Mudbusters so far. The only slight difficulty I had is that the soles of the mudbusters are much thicker and when I first had them if I tried to push something to one side with my foot I'd end up kicking the floor and hurting my ankle! Now that I'm used to them though it's fine!

I am the Wellie Destroyer (most wellies split after 1-3 wearings with me) and so far after getting Ariat Mudbusters at the beginning of October and wearing them everyday (even during all the snow and freezing), they have stood up to my abuse!

They are chunky and loose around the leg but I'm not fussed about showing off my legs with wellies as I like to get mine off easy and tuck my jeans into them. I'm a size 8 and got the 7 1/2's but I reckon I could fit into the 7's too.

Very comfy and they don't hurt my back and hip either!

I've had unlined Le Chameau wellies and they were the most comfortable wellies I've ever had, I'd definitely buy another pair.
I've also got Mudbusters which are okay, but not as comfy and they are more roomy around the ankle than Le Chameau.

Thanks everyone - decisions, decisions!!!

touchstone - thanks, i do like the look of the Le Chameau. What are they like size wise (do they come up big or are they about right?)

Ive had Hunters, Joules, and barbour wellies and have to say none of them compare to my Ariat Mudbusters mine are fab have really lasted never leaked and were excellent value for money.

I brought yet another pair of Le Chamaeu - Viersonord wellies (http://www.bestboots.co.uk/vierzonord-wellington-boots.htm) around Christmas time as I didn't have much time to replace my leaky ones after 3 years of wear. I think they come with a years guarantee too and I paid £145 - rather expensive but they are lovely and warm and very true to size and the tread is great with great ankle support too.
Must always wash them off when you have been bouncing around the manure heap to remove pee. They even have a special cream/spray to condition them!!!

I bought the same ones - they were £123 from countryfirst direct. They are really comfortable and the neoprene keeps feet warm. However my sister has found after 3 months that the seam in the backs has "opened" - its not a crack, just the sealant on the seams has cracked so you can now see the seam. She always uses the Le Chameau spray on them. Also one of the buckles has fallen off.

She will be sending them back so will be testing their 1 yr guarantee.

Also, given the now current EU bio-gradable laws, wellies arn't lasting as long as they used to, and any natural product (like horse pee, sea salt etc) will eat into them.

Aigle are fab wellies so ditto whoever suggested them.
