Hi everyone!

I’m looking to get some new Ariat short chaps. I currently have the close contact show chaps but the zipper keeps falling down which is really annoying!

What does everyone think of the Palisade or Concorde chaps? Do the zippers stay up and are they good quality?
Thank you!

I live in Concords and they do about 2-3 years and I ride a lot (2-3 horses a day). Zips are pretty good. I don’t compete in them though, just ride everyday in them. I am now on my 4th pair of Concords and not found any I like as much. Usually get a hole in them where the elastic is or the elastic on foot rots so just normal wear and tear rather than zip going.

Have used the Concorde's for years as well. Usually replace every 3 years or so after daily use riding multiple horses. The elastic usually snaps first and then they eventually go really tatty. But I don't look after them and they are super comfy, so I'd say worth the price!

I also use the Concordes and love them - I am not a regular rider but test/escort riding holidays at least a few times a year meaning my chaps get a lot of wear in a short space of time, often 5 - 6 hours a day for several days on a trip. I've had the current pair for several years and love them - they are totally comfortable, trustworthy and have worn really well. I do clean and treat them before each trip which helps to keep the leather supple but they've survived all sorts of environments and I will certainly look at another pair when these ones eventually bite the dust.

I have Tuffa cheap ones for most of the year, but more up market Mountain Horse for my winter boots. When I am riding I dont notice the difference. All my zips end at the ankle.

I have had both but prefer the Treadstep ones with the elasticated leather panel. The zip goes the other way, so stays put!

I have had these too, but have concluded the ariats last better for me - and I prefer an upward zip. I've never had issues with the zip undoing... but that might be because I have twig calves. Ariat and tredstep are the only brands that go narrow and talf enough, but those Ariat zips have lasted much better for me. I prefer tredstep long boots though of the two options.

I don’t have twig legs but again no issues. Again prefer zip up. Had one pair of Tredsteps and hated them. Wasn’t upset when they died. I also like the chunky zip as doesn’t go wrong. I tend to buy shires jod boots now as found ££££ or £ boots they last just as long. Which is roughly 18 months to 2 years.

I also need to add I have a pathological loathing of black so everything needs to be brown. Only time I wear black boots is when I wear a navy comp jacket on.

I have used the ariat concords for years for everyday riding and live them, never had issue with zips staying up

I had the same problem with my Ariat half chaps with the zip slipping down. If your half chaps still have life left in them, then here's an easy fix....

You'll need a pair of fine rounded shoelaces, then using a hole punch, punch a small hole into the chaps at each side of the top of the zipper. Thread the shoelace through both of the holes and when you've put your half chaps on, tie the shoelace in a bow threading it through the zipper, and tuck the shoelace into top of the half chaps. ?
