Well, vet rang at 7.00pm last night and said, 'I'm not coming this evening - I can come at 8.30am tomorrow'
This is typical of Spanish vets, I hope to goodness I can find a decent one before anything truly horrible might happen to either of my horses - imagine calling for a colic and being told they could come tomorrow, does my head in....
Anyway, we left them out until eight o'clock last night. They weren't too impressed and were quite happy to come in! Ari's legs had gone down a lot by then and he was obviously in no pain. He has got a tiny cut on his right rear fetlock and a graze on the pastern, just above the heel but he did these out in the field yesterday. We are not muddy here and both wounds are clean and dry so I slapped some antiseptic on for the night and left him to his dinner.
This morning his legs were the same as last night, after twelve hours in, so I rang the vet and told her not to bother this morning. (I'll call another one if I think he needs it). We turned them out early and made them walk the long way to the field to make him move his legs a bit. We didn't put any hay out straightaway for them so they had to mooch about looking for grass and hay bits, then Ari got stroppy due to lack of food and they started chasing each other about! All good exercise I thought so I left them for a bit longer! Took them some hay up and put it out in small piles so they have to walk about and not too much of it so Ari will walk down the end of the field to complain at some point!
I think the problem is we have had some foul weather lately so no riding and they have either been in or standing out under the trees knee deep in hay with no reason to move about and his legs are not as used to it as FB's, so they filled. Hopefully a more active regime will keep things under control.
Thanks for all the advice and reassurance yesterday
