I notice in H&H today that Arko's stud fee is now £1,800 (£3,500 last year) and Russel is £1,200 (£1,800 last year).

Will this be the credit crunch hitting or cheaper fee's cos these stallion's are standing at stud full time now ???

I noticed that too!!!!!!!! SLIGHT difference to before! Could also be because they are now at stud full time though instead of around stud duties and so are not pushed for collections...

What makes me laugh though is that you have Arko at £1800 and Russel at £1200.....both Olympic SJers amongst the best in the world....

and then you have a 4 yr old stallion like Diarado, who is yes stunnign and talented.....at 1800 euros!!!!!

i agree i wouldnt use arko, awesome horse most of the time but jacked it in the ring too many times for my liking. russells nice but not one id choose either. fashion stallions in my opinion. nice to see the prices coming down though.

I think thats probably because they are at stud full time now... although I know some places have lowered stud fees because of the credit crunch

There were reasons i.e. injury, for Arko to be stopping. Yes he still has to prove himself as a sire BUT from the relatively few coverings he did when competing, he certainly has some very talented offspring coming to the fore.

I am an Arko fan, it won't be long before he is stamping his mark as a sire now that it is his full time job.

Like every stallion it is having the numbers of foals on the ground that takes a sire up the rankings.

He has shown he has the talent, he has the right breeding, all he needs now are the right mares.

He is definitely one I would use now his stud fee has come down to a reasonable rate.

My mother saw Arko a couple of weeks ago and was completely blown away by him. She said he was breathtaking in the flesh. She wants me to use him on a couple of my mares this year. I said absolutely, if she pays!!!!

Any info in relation to the type of temperament of Arko's progeny? I heard he could be a bit on the hot side.

One on my yard is going to Russel this year now he's over here - little flat bred TB mare too....interesting match

It's happened hugely in the racing world, so why not the sportshorse world too? Take Pivotal - stud fee this year is only £60,000, last year it was either £85K or £80 (brain is tired and I've forgotten lol

yes and there are a lot of stallions out there so it makes sense in many ways because breeders are going to pick and choose i think arent they even more than usual.

As far as I know they have nice temps. Amelia on here has a stunning young Arko stallion, Anne Bedfor also has one, the Whittakers have Argento and the Nick Skelton has the stunning Arkida. Almost all of these have a very definite Arko look to them as well.

going back to the stud fee i would be gutted if i had paid £3,500 to find now years later its gone down to nearly half!this is the dabate i have with my self about Diarado not knowing what way his stud fee will go?

SSS - if you can afford it, why not go direct to Diarado's sire.....at least there you know for certain that if you get a decent foal then it will be more than marketable and the stud fee is not likely to change.

We agree. We stand our own stallions but would have no hesitation in using Arko on our very best mares, having seen his early progeny competing. His own performance speaks for itself, it was a privilege to watch him jump in Dublin last year.

i think you'll find Russel's stud fee hasn't changed, Arko is now cheaper as he has now fully retired to stud, both stallions have great temprements and produce quality young stock....
As for Arko jacking it i think you'll find he only stopped when he was hurting...winning over £1m he must have been pretty successfull and his stud fee is far cheaper than some stallions that were far less successfull than he was........

I have 2 young stallions by Arko and they both have super temps & look like thier dad

. If either of them do half as well as Archie I will die a happy woman
