hi put thread on the other night about my yearling just getting mud fever, well was told to get this product aromaheel cream , so bought it and have to say scabs is coming off on there own and this is only 2nd day, only thing is noticed his joints have swelled abit. vet said it can be the cream killing the infection and to give a few days and swellings will go down.

have any of you's used this cream if so has any of your horses had bit of swelling with it. he loves me putting the cream on, just put it on today 2nd day and he loved it. so is soothing. now i caught the mud fever very quickly so not too bad, but it is on all 4 feet. also it took half the tub yesterday and nearly the rest of it today. i have ordered another tub should be here on monday, but wouldnt have enough for all 4 feet 2morrow, think might mix sudo cream or vasaline with last wee bit of what i have for 2morrow or should i just not put anything on 2morrow. also it was £16.25 dont want to be paying this every 2 days, so what would you use after 2nd tub is gone. thanks

I've used it for a while now with good results and have never had any swelling, although I use it more as a preventative than a cure so that may be why.

Hi- think I was one of the people who suggested it.

My horse didn't have any swelling with the cream but it did work quickly. Think I had to buy quite a few tubs of it but it was only one leg affected. Once it had gone, I used Keratex powder as a preventative (and still do)

thanks for reply's,
the only thing is, is there a cheaper remedey as if i have to use 1 tub every 2-3 days for 4 weeks or whatever time, i couldn't afford that. any other cures for mud fever. also what would you do about 2morrow, as i wouldn't have much left to do his feet should i mix abit of vasaline or sudocream or what would you suggest maybe leave them altogether till monday till get new tub. thanks for all advice.

thanks magichorse, i do love the stought just expensive, thanks a million for helping.

Yes I used it too last winter but it came back. I ended up using homeopathy and that worked wonders and it stayed away too.

Mineral deficiencies can bring on mf, makes the skin defences weak. It might be worth checking he has a mineral support for the time being?

If it was me, tomorrow, I'd use up what you have on one leg and use sudocrem on the others. I have used sudocrem and it did seem to ease the mud fever but never actually got rid of it completely. However, my horse had it badly and came from previous owner with it so had had it a while- might work better for you as you've caught it earlier.

Just a thought- could you use aromaheel on 2 legs and sudocrem on 2 and see if they work differently? If the sudocrem works just as well it'd be much cheaper!

Hope thats some help :)

I think you're probably putting it on to thickly - it only needs a thin layer, and you don't need to keep re-applying it if the mud fever patch is still covered. You shouldn't need to use it for 4 weeks either - I found it worked in a couple of days. I've hardly used any of my first pot, but he did only have it on the back of one knee.
I found that Mud-X liquid (feed sup) from Global Herbs worked wonders at keeping it away once it had gone.

Agree with supplement - you need to stop it from the inside too as I said before but can't stress enough that if he is deficient in certain minerals (can't remember which) the skin becomes weak and less tolerant to damp conditions.

thanks i have got him a lick with mixed minerals he loves it, also will use sudo cream today till get new tub 2morrow. i am going to give him a injection of 20cc of penstrip for antiboditcs vet said that should help any infection and swelling also to give him 2 bute today. thanks

hey, just to say my pony has had mud fever recently, and I have been going for quite a complex approach but it seems to be working really well. I cleaned his legs with really mild, warm hibiscrub solution, left on for 4 mins, then wash off thoroughly and towel dry. Wait until legs are completely dry, then smother in sudocreme, clingfilm (i know-pretty strange experience clingfilming my pony's legs!) then bandage. Leave on overnight as it loosens all the scabs and just makes them a whole lot better. In morning, using really warm water and cotton wool, wash off sudocreme (this takes a while and is a bit of a faff!) then smother in udder cream, which is really quite cheap and acts as a barrier as well as healing. You can either repeat with the sudocreme, or just continue with the udder cream depending on how you feel. Hope this is helpful! Also, I know some people who use flamazine, which seems to have worked quite well for them, although it is quite expensive.

Yarp! Heard udder cream is also pretty good but as TobyTank says, put it on dry!
