Arranging temporary one day insurance for a horsebox

I am currently horsebox shopping and I am having to travel fair distances to look at contenders, all of which are private sales. If I find something I like I will want to buy it and take it away straight away as I won't want to travel a long distance a second time. I can get the vehicle tax online at the time, but I will also need to get temporary insurance in order to drive it home (I will get an annual policy the next day). I am only looking at 3.5ton boxes based on a Renault Master/Movano chassis, so the registration plate details will be for a van rather than a livestock carrier.

My car insurance provider won't give me temporary insurance as it's a van not a car. I have found some online temporary insurance brokers that will give quotes for a van but one of them asks for details of the van body and if I select horsebox no providers will quote. So, am I OK to just get insurance for it as a *van* rather than a horsebox? I won't be using it as a horsebox as such, ie not transporting horses, just driving it home empty.

Has anyone else solved this problem or got any tips?

It is pretty normal to get the registration number upfront, phone a horse box insurer and get a quote for the yearly insurance, get the quote ref number then phone up and activate the insurance when money changes hands

Most insurance company sales offices are open a lot of the time

Sadly the company I have used for horsebox insurance for years (Shearwater) are not open at the weekend and I can only go to view horseboxes at the weekend. I would try KBIS as an alternative but they are only open for two hours on a Saturday morning.

Any recommendations for reasonable horsebox insurance from companies that are available at weekends, including Sundays?
