Sorry sorry, more whinging about the trailer test...

I need to take mine. My plan is buy my own towing vehicle, practise with YO's trailer and then just take the test, no training days, etc. But my hubby is saying that you can't take your own vehicle, as you need to have a special light built in to say the electrics are working properly or something.

The test seems sooo expensive anyway, without paying a fortune for training too. I'd probably only go out once a month, maximum, so really don't want to spend the £600+ that I have been quoted for a intense 2 day course.

these courses are there to help people pass first time. it coud be more expensive if you fail and need to resit.

FWIW Never heard of the light thingy.

you don't need anything for the lights but you will need external mirrors fitted so that the examiner gets the same view as you do in your wing mirrors.

I did the training, it cost me less than a friend spent doing multiple tests although he is a very good tower he just wasn't doing it by the book so to speak, coupling/uncoupling has to be v correct etc.

also given that the test involved going round and round our county town I think I much preferred to do it with a small box trailer than my horse one!

Your OH might mean a repeater box? Our Mercs have always been fitted with them, if you use the indicators with a trailer hitched up, it beeps.

yes that he means you either need the light to indicate trailer lights are working or a beeper. Most towing vehicles have beepers fitted as standard :)
I used my own vehicle and trailer and passed first time with only 3hrs of lessons :D
