As title really!! Why is it so hard to find an equine physio in Oxfordshire?!?!

Been recommended two people, neither of whom ever answer the phone, call back, or return messages

My horse needs a physio!!!!!! Seriously, my customers would get fed up and buy from someone else if they had to chase me so much.

Why is it so difficult to find someone??

Why only someone trained as an osteo?

There are many different ways of muscle release ( and that is all that can be done without knocking the horse out) We need to address what moves the bones - answer - muscles via tendons.

There are alot of people out there who call themselves therapists and are not 'chartered' - I just prefer someone who is trained as a chiro/physio/osteo to mess with my horses back. I'm not convinced by the chiro route (surely a person cannot realign a horses pelvis!!) and for me, a physio is more about rehabilitation etc.

Just personal preference and experience.

I'm an equine sports massage therapist. My site is www.equetouch.co.uk. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

CC - Lee did P today and I was really impressed - she had already lifted her back by the time he had finished and was moving beautifully around the field this evening - I highly recommend.

If you DEFFO want Chiro then call Gloria Leverett - she does my manipulation - 01993 840007, tell her I told you to call.

Can I recommend Diane Pugh, her details are on the ACPAT website. She's based in Bucks but travels all over (have also pasted details below)
Miss Diane Pugh
Tel (Home): 01491 638069
Tel (Work): 07870 202942
Tel (Mobile): 07870 202942

She's worked wonders on my friends horse and who was referred to her via our vets. Our vets also think she's very good so thats a good enough recommendation for me!!

Hi Lou, I actually want a physio. I'm not 100% convinced about chiros and osteos, so would prefer a physio. I like someone who's a human physio first, and ideally someone who is Chartered

Always good to have someone on recommendation though!

I agree about the "therapists" bit. I won't use someone who is just calling themselves a "therapist". I would want whoever I use to be chartered, which is why I like the website someone put up. There are differences between physio, chiro and osteo though, and I personally prefer a physio. I agree about not being able to realign a pelvis, I think that's just mumbo jumbo.

It's interesting how people have different views on all three.

I'm hoping to start training as an Osteopath next year and I guess I'm a bit biased now - just feel that an Osteo will look at everything about a person/horses health as opposed to looking at skelatal or muscle.......

Definitely, and I know I tend to get quite fixed in my view that I am right and everyone else must be wrong LOL!!

What surprises me is the amount of people who let someone unqualified mess around with their horse

Good luck with the course!!!

Thanks CC! I don't really know much myself (yet) but have just done loads of research into it......it's all horses for courses though!

I had a physio do Ty before and she was great, but the same practice sent a different one out (who trained as an Osteo first) and my goodness, the results were amazing! You'll find that alot of good physios/Osteos will use a mixture of techniques (my boys osteo uses a machine which is more common of a physio)

QR: Fair enough! Personally I haven't been impressed with any of the physios I have used, hence why going the route I go

Ive never felt winston as fabulous as he does when J has been to him its truely amazing.

YOs horse was completely twisted and there was little hope, J sorted him and hes now happily jumping 1.60m

It was on YOs recommendation and she was totally right.

My old chiros were nice enoough but i just never felt that difference when riding my horses afterwards.

With J I do.

Hopefully she can sort me out also, im in a right mess

But I thought yours wasn't a physio BBs, but an Osteo who does physio! My McT does physio on top of her McT. IMHO it is good to have a trained *manipulator* who does other things on the side!

QR - It is important to find someone who treats you or your horse in a way that works for you...physio's/chiro's/osteos all have their good and not so good points and benefits, but if you find a practitioner who makes a difference then that is what you should go with, not just because you have been told that one profession is better than another. Personally, I would use an Osteopath as that is what i am training to do, but equally I have seen good results from physios and even people practising shiatsu!

I have used J on my present horse and my previous one, and she was absolutely brilliant. Totally trust her.

I just wish I could get hold of her!!

It's so difficult to get hold of any of them, we just play telephone tennis all day long. My horse is in dire need of someone asap and the only one I can find wants to charge me £100!!!!!
