Arrived at Rockley Farm

Hi, Lucy looks lovely! I bet my boy Oscar is in his element with all these mares - he's a real ladies man :) His girlfriend, Dilly (who went with him) is apparently keeping close tabs on him though!
I'm going to visit tomorrow so will let you know how Lucy is doing. It's so hard having them so far away, but fingers crossed it will all be worth it. Are you in Sussex too? Just thinking about future visits, maybe we cold all go together to save on fuel!

Mugsgame - Oscar had laminitis very badly, in all four feet a year and a half ago. I now think he has had LGL for longer than I care to think about - often looking footy and 'off' for no apparent reason. So whether he is a chronic laminitic I don't know for sure, but he is definitely prone. If you like I can let you know how this affects things as his re-hab continues.

Mugsgame – I’m not sure if any chronic laminitic’s had been sent to Rockley? Might be worth contacting Nic though? And what donquixote said!

Criso – I love Zan (and think Pats has a soft spot for him too :)). He’s gorgeous and such a sweetie... hope he comes right for your friend!!
Wish I could go there more often – just couldn’t afford it though lol. I’ve looked into flying and train, but costs about the same and prob same amount to time to drive.

donquixote - Have fun! Hope Oscar is improving! He'll certainly be loving all the ladies!

p.s Patsy on the blog today :)

Oscar looks V Handsome, but I can only find one pic at the bottom of the blog home page. PM a link if there is any more, I am so interested in all of the work they are doing.

Criso, where in Herts are you? I used to live in Hertfordshire and had my own yard in Tring. Its such a small world.

Speak of small world I am confused, who is from Sussex then? Is anyone near Haywards Heath? Lift share sounds like a fantastic solution. I am going to be on holiday 20mins down the road next week so will visit her a couple of times, but after that it will be a journey just to see her so that would be fab to try and go together - its a fair old trek!

I look forward to meeting everyone and there horses, and wish us all a positive outcome. Fingers crossed x x x x

Sviallis83 I'm near aldenham, -'m at a lovely small yard not far from Patchetts.
Someone was telling me about the gallops at Tring and we're planning to box up.
With Lucy being a tb did you get lots of shaking of heads and vague references to "tb feet". It's what I got with Frankie.

I know patchetts well, been there lots of times - its about half hour from home! We have a few good gallops near by. Walter Swimburns are the best but he doesnt hire them out :-(

And yes people said bad feet due to being a TB - like this was an answer!! I have had plenty of TBs and all with good feet, and I have my old farrier to thank for that. To be fair Lucy's feet do not look as bad on the outside as they do internally which is why we have ended up with such problems!

So is Frankie at Rockley now or has he done his time? x

Frankie did have classic bad tb feet but I think that was a result having shoes on from less than 2 years old rather than an inevitable fact, they have certainly changed now. Nothing the farriers did seemed to help and they got worse and worse despite their best efforts.

He went to Rockley about a year ago and came back in the summer. If you do a search on the blog there is footage of him and lots of hoof shots ;)

He's doing well, I've been struggling a little lately with having to travel for work and keeping him in a consistent workload buI'm jumping him now and planning to take him cross country schooling - probably to Great Westwood - and looking forward to the summer.

Hi all, just got back from visiting Rockley! It was great to see Oscar and his new friends.
Svallis83, Lucy looks to be doing really well and is stomping around like nothing much has happened :) She's very palled up with Zan which is nice. They were all put out together last night and Nic tells me they are all getting on just fine. Oh and it's me that is from Sussex (Hassocks so not far from you!) I'm hoping to go again in about 4 weeks.

It was a little hard seeing my boy, Oscar, as he is struggling a bit with his dodgy foot/leg confirmation and having very newly bare feet, but I must keep reminding myself that it's only been 3 weeks...
Dilly, my friends horse had obviously overdone things a bit and was feeling a bit sore too (but had previously been doing really well which is encouraging) so we weren't able to do anything with them as such. Hopefully on the next visit we will be able to do more.

What amazes me most about Rockley is how chilled out all the horses are. I've never known mine to be so laid back. Long may that continue :)

Thanks for the post, I think it sounds like yours is doing well, and from todays blog there certainly seems to be improvement. It will take him time to adjust but it will be worth it. You just have to be positive. I am setting off at 9am tomorrow for my first visit, I cant wait to see her and meet your guys, I'm so excited. Let me know the date you are going down and if I can I will try and come with you, it would be nice to share the journey and it will also be enough time to expect some further changes in our horses . Its under saddle that I really worry about mine. I will be in touch when I get back Monday (having a weekend break with friends 30mins away from the farm!). x x

THANK YOU.... thank you thank you. I got to visit Rockley on Thursday and it was the most wonderful place. ALL of the horses looked so happy, even those that were struggling a bit on their feet seemed to be in good spirits. I was not expecting such a rich and fulfilling environment and they all seemed to have formed a real bond with each other. So thank you all for filling me with the confidence to send Lucy. I got to ride her out and it was just wonderful. We were up and down terrain that I would never have done at home, and she seemed to really love being back under saddle after her time off. I feel so positive about her future, even if it wont be filled with competitions she will certainly have a quality of life that I could not see before. I just have to keep my fingers crossed we can get her sound schooling! Thank you again for the support. x x P.s Zan and Patsy were the only ones in when I went and they were both sooooooo lovely (Lucy is somewhat obsessed!!) x
