Arrogant men on horses

Apologies to any men reading this, but today out riding I got so annoyed, I was on the road riding back to the yard with a friend, and there was another girl on her own in front of us, all 3 horses were on their toes because there was a bit of traffic and it was windy, but it was ok.
Then there was this posh man about 5 horses lengths behind us, not the best rider in the world, yelling into his mobile totally oblivious to what was going on around him, and totally showing off. His horse was ok in the traffic but thats not the point; because he had a bigger horse with a slightly longer stride he was starting to catch us up, so in the middle of his (extremely important) conversation he yells at me to trot on, and I refused (my horse can't trot on the road due to mild arthritis and he was so rude), so he just had to hang back, we were due to turn off the road anyway.
But what annoys me is these men (theres 1 at my yard as well) who ride once a week and think they're the best riders in the world when they're quite obviously not. And why can't he just enjoy riding his horse out instead of spending his hack on the phone, which is dangerous as well as annoying to other riders?

You have to understand I'm afraid that a .....(searches for acceptable term) pratt is a pratt, regardless of whether he's riding his 17 hh hunter / TB, driving his executive style car, at his exclusive gym or on the golf course.

It is all for effect, to flatter his ego and make up for a teeny weeny....lunch box

I'm afraid this is not exclusive to men. We have a few persons of the other gender that fit that bill round here.

EDIT: I expect he also gave you a really snooty look as he went past, as you were only riding 'ponies'

We have one on our yard. His idea of schooling is straight on, in the menage (regardless of how many others are in there), cantering round and round on each rein - getting up people's backsides, cutting them and skimming past the other horses and then walking a couple of laps then leaving the school

Ummm, yes I do, a 14.2hh Newfie gelding that belongs to my OH.

I don't so much mind the looking down, as pretty much every one rides something bigger, but I can live without the snooty looks thank you

I must admit that I think every other rider (other than the lovely ones I know and ride out with

) looks down on me and my riding partner (a 'he') and my two 'boys' as one is a little horse ... 14.3 and used to always be acting the pr**t (but is much more sensible now

Blokes of a certain age (and usually with hairy backs) swimming lengths in swimming pools have the same consideration policy for other people, too. And cyclists..oh God, you've got me started!
 
I generally notice that it is small men riding big horses who have a lot of problems, think its down to short man syndrome!!! not all of them though, my OH is quite short and he doesnt have short man syndrome, however he doesnt ride so maybe if he got on my 17.1 he would!!
 
There's a bloke near us who has two amazing horses - they are really sweet but he is a t*sser and treats them like sh*t

He's the type who goes everywhere fast, doesn't say thank when people slow their cars to go past etc.

Glad Im not the only one with a dobbin tb and a mad welsh cob they must have had the genes transplanted at birth.

Oh I'm with you there. Our usual 'crew' consists of three Newfies, all 14.2 / 3 and a 15.2 ID (ridden by a 14 year old girl). We have a great time and a real laugh, especially as the ID and two of the Newfie's are geldings. They may not have all their bits, but boy are they competitive.

The snooty looks are usually handed out by ladies riding stunning 16 hh plus TB's, immaculately turned out. Never see them laughing though

Last Welsh I rode had a heart of gold....but no brain. Bloody fast though

My horse is 15.3 so not a pony, my friends is 16.1 but he still would have looked down on us if he had the chance to go past us, his was about 17hh.
We've got one at my yard as well, it seems like everyone has!
But I must admit I do give snooty looks sometimes, usually to kids riding their scruffy fat little ponies in pink johdpurs and trainers.

The ones I seem to see usually have hunter type horses, they couldn't control a tb if they tried, they all look terrible on their horses, no other type of horse would tolerate it.
 
You wouldnt want him hes just walking out after surgery for spavins .Had tendon injury and cannon bone bruise last year and ligament the year before now tell me you want to swap lol.Love him to bits but hes a bloody nightmare and expensive to run Im having trouble with insurance co. If you pay his vets bill Ill seriously think about it lol
Took him out today he has to do a month of walking and hes a good boy on his own but so slow .Ive tried kicking him on tickling him with the stick being firm he just dawdles .By the time I got back from my hours hack I was exhausted.He did a fantastic rein back in the middle of the road because he saw some stags cant really blame him too much for that hes not come across them before.Once we start cantering hell turn back into the loon again I suppose.
He needs some serious schooling but I have to lay off every time he injures himself.
So when do you want him brought over
 
I think it would be a good idea for a company to make a tabard with "sorry cant trot on the road injured horse".I have alot of snooty looks from people in cars because I cant trot at the moment and I cant use the school either so hacking is the only option.
 
I ride a tb and a welsh cob she is 14 1.
Its weird but if I ride the cob i get alot lot of ah isnt she sweet and I get ignored on my tb but Im just as friendly and approachable on both.Funny thing is shes the bolshy one and hes really gentle and playful.Perhaps he looks intimidating.

Apologies NOT accepted. Really - what you are talking about is an arrognt person - and that's not restricted to men in the horse world - far from it. Arrogance is unacceptable in any form and I think we agree on that. So please - lets leave it there and not start going into deficiencies in the lunch box region and knocking male riders as some of the other posters seem to wish to. Many of the criticisms made apply equally across the sexes. So please - let's leave it there on the basis that any arrogance is unacceptable.

It's true, a lot of men are arrogant on horseback. Take me, I've got a 16.3 TB ex-racer (won several races), I ride one handed, smoke, drink and use my phone on horseback, it's all good!

But, I'd much rather ride my Wife's 15.3 TBx, she's nice, friendly and an excellent dooer.

The guy who rushed past was probably ringing somebody up for instructions on how to stop his horse! I do think that what you ride changes your attitude while riding. If you're on a nice, keen, friendly horse, you'll have an easier ride - ergo a nicer person to meet. If you're on a nutbag TB fed on racing mix you'll have to fight for it's mouth every two minutes in between getting bucked up and down like a bronco, not gonna put anybody (especially an arrogant chappy) in a friendly polite mood!!

Next time just shout 'gosh thats a nice horse, much better than my knackered old pony, I wish I had it then I could be a complete w**ker too!!!!!' What could he say in reply?

Who is the politer rider a woman on a big TB or a man on a little New Forest?

As a man who rides a 14.2 hh New Forest, I can be as friendly as I like, but to no effect. This is because I have proved without doubt that most men on horses, and all men on ponies are INVISIBLE

Course I'm extracting the michael!!! At the end of the day there's no need for attitude's like the wally on the 17er that snaps at you, no different to the pillock that drives past you when you're out hacking with his sub box thumping away!

Horses rule!! It's just a shame that all horse owners are now pretty much liable for any incident that occurs involving their horse, especially when my TB's out, he thinks that every manner of beast is out to get him and wouldn't hesitate to bite a car - bit my BMW once, sold it now though with a bite mark in the wing!! LOL.

Well I'm only a little guy and my beast is 14.2, I am well happy with his size, but then I dont have to make up for anything as I have a large knob.

The guy behind you on his big horse is a moron, as others say he wil be a prick whatever and wherever he is, blokes like that make me sick
