ARRRGGGHHH!! Another is this email a scam? (sorry!!)

Sounds like a scam to me, what good horse person would buy a horse by E mail? I would never reply to a horse that was advertised by Email I would call, and if someone Emailed me about a horse I was selling I wouldnt even reply, I think it is good maners to call someone that way you can get a feel for the person.

Edited to say: There is now way that is genuine I would lay money on it, if it were me I would send them one back saying I had contacted the police you wont get anymore.

Even if it is genuine they clearly have no reserve funds and therefore do not have the money to look after a horse or pony. Even if you agreed to their terms with a legal agreement if they did not pay further instalments you could have a major problemn getting money out of them if they have no money.

Keep well away from these people they are clearly chancers.

I posted the other day following a ridiculous scam email I got about my pony who is advertised for sale. Now I have another I'm not sure about! GRRRR!! Why do I get all the weird ones!!!! Haha!! This one is different though and I think a lot more genuine, just a bit odd!!!

I responded to the following advert on preloved.

I would like to buy a horse or pony for my daughter and myself to share, 13.3-15.00, looking for a sweet natured horse who wants a life of hacking and fun rides with the odd lesson, we were looking to loan then buy, but if anyone has a nice horse or pony who is willing to let us pay by installments, we would pay up to £2000 with tack, we are experinced as we have had our own horse(idx) but would like a horse who is good in traffic, with out vices, and who is also suitable for an 11 year old to ride, age looks not really important.

She then replied back to me with the following message:

Hi Suzie, thank you very much for the information, he sounds very nice, does he come with any tack? we are rather a long way from you and we dont have a trailer! so I think this is going to lead nowhere! but do you have any pics? also is he in good health and wormed vaccinated and passported? many thanks, HER NAME

I responded with a picture and some more info, and basically said I understand if too far away but you are welcome to come and try him out etc..... all fine so far right?!?! She then said:

Hi Suzie, he is adorable! my one issue is his size, my daughter is about 5ft 3 and maybe 8 stones or so, without seeing him in the flesh its hard to decide if he would find it a struggle going for a good long ride with that sort of weight?, he looks quite stocky and well made, anyway what sort of payment plan would be acceptable to you? I was thinking of £500 down then a monthly payment plus extra payments as I earn (I run my own business so things can be a bit sporadic! he would be kept at a friends private field with stable, out summer in over night winter(is he ok with being in? and will he hack out alone?) many thanks HER NAME

To be honest I was thinking yes I guess that would be fine as with the market as it is if its a good home i would be ok with that sort of arrangement. Still fine.....

THEN I GOT THIS which has now confuuuuused me!!!!FOR GODS SAKE!!!!

Hi Suzie, thanks for all the info! he looks really sweet, I am seriously thinking of buying him, I hope you dont mind me asking so many questions as I would not be coming up there to see him in the flesh.(he would be a big surprise for my daughter) Here are a few more questions. Is he going to travel well? I would be sending a box for him, its a 3.5 hour drive. He must have his passport in order for the transport company to take him. He must wear sweat rug, leg bandages, tail bandage, and have a haynet. I have to ask you if you would consider , reducing his price enough to cover the transport and for a second hand saddle? I would offer you£1200, with £600 up front to clear before he left, also he was going to be a xmas present, how long are you prepared to keep him once we have reached an agreement? many thanks Suzie.

Not coming to see him????!?!!? Want me to keep him til xmas (fine but weird right?) Has to travel with sweat rug travel boots etc?! GAH! I dont know what to do!!!!!

Sorry about long boring post but this pony selling lark is getting stressful :(

ETA i care about this little one and the idea of just sending him off to someone ive never met is not appealing to me at all, but would i be risking turning down a genuine home?!?!

Wouldn't touch her with a barge pole. She is either genuine but completely mad for buying a horse/pony for her 11 year old daughter without trying or even seeing it ( so if they didn't take to your pony once they had it would it end up on the endless merry go round of being sold on...and on...?), or she is up to no good. I put my money on the second option.

I wouldn't say it was a scam, as i think you would see some of the money, but I don't think it's a genuine story. If she cant be bothered to come and see it, the why should you be bothered to sell it to her?
She may like the look of the horse, but you may not like the look of her, hence her not coming to visit.
And, I'm not saying you have, but if did falsey advertise the horse in the advert and she hasn't even considered the horse not being what it's like on paper, then she is a very silly woman and I personally don't think you can trust her to look after the horse.

As you already know, you have to trust the people your one-in-a-million pony is being sold to.

Hope he finds a good home.

I think it's probably a scam, would a transporter really be willing to meet the buyer first to get the cash and than hand it over to you? I think not! The 'transporter would probably turn up with a rubber cheque!

Whether it's a scam or not I would not sell to someone who can't be bothered to come and see the pony! Also - is it just me who doesn't like the sound of a pony being a 'Christmas present'? Just... no.

just got this lovely email having just put him on horsequest ;)

hi if im intrested in your bay roan horse would it be 1500 include all tack and rugs or some tack and rugs email back the offer

FFS!

One scenario
The pony goes to her and is then sold on, you get no more than the first installment. You cannot contact the woman at the address given, you have paid out extra money for the rug and bandages, and you accepted less than you really wanted in the first place. It could be her driving the horsebox to collect the pony, you wont know. You can't give the police a description, you can't enforce a legal agreement.
I'd get the money up front or Pony Club references! Or give the pony away to someone you know and trust. At least then you can keep in touch.
Possibly try the Pony Club web site for advertising.

I think they are asking if you are including all tack and rugs in the price, or some tack and rugs, or no tack at all :)
I can translate them for you, lol, I get enough of these.
TBH this one is just a pretty standard enquiry, you have to remember that not everybody is literate ;)
