Anyone else ready to give their horse to Tescos and have them burger-ized today?!

I certainly am. My mare has always had issues with being clipped, but she was being exceptionally good today. Exemplary behaviour until about halfway up her neck. I stopped and tried to twitch her, which is what we usually do. She threw the world's biggest tantrum about being twitched and I simply couldn't do it (500kg against 50 kg...). Tried sedalin, she wouldn't let me come near her face. Decided to leave her for the rest of today and try the head tomorrow.

Anyone else got clipper issues? And what do you do about them??

This will go against the grain with many but, when they start to prat around I get very, very cross!
I go into attack mode and get after the horse in that I will untie it rapidly, chase it backward around the stable, cussing and flicking the rope against their chest so that they think they are going to die.
I then continue to clip as if nothing had happened.
Their fear of my reaction is greater than the worry of the clippers.

Yep my cobbie used to hate them, still does to a certain extent! Used to take 2 to hold him and 1 to clip, or sedate him and couldn't get near to twitch anyway! Keep then on around her and do other horses with her standing next to her. When it comes to clipping stick a ball of cotton wool in each ear, it works brilliantly and I use a control headcollar just because he's a bit of a tank. I clipped him on my own with no force, twitch or sedation, just cotton wool :)

My mare has to be sedated by the vet and still puts up a fight when we get anywhere near her head.
I have a lovely patient lady at the yard clip her because I would get   I don't go anywhere near her when they clip her

Haha I do this as well! When my gelding arses around in the stable he tries to buck at me - in that small space - which could result in both of us getting very hurt, so I scare the living daylights out of him until he stands there, his bottom lip quivering with a "Sorry mum" look on his face. Then I can get on with whatever it was I was trying to do :D

I don't set about trying to hurt him, but the funniest time by far was when I held on to the bottom corner bits of my jacket and raised it up to my head, making myself into a massive BAT!! He literally froze in fear haha, that'll teach him ;)

What about just taking a break and trying again... or warming the horse up? If you had clipped up to the neck and the rest of the body is now skin-only... perhaps horse was cold?

HAHAHAHAHA these cheered me up so much. I can just picture the whole bat thing, absolutely hilarious. Thank you <3 I tried the scary approach, but she showed me all corners of the stable if you know what I mean... Launched me off the floor a few times as well. I just don't think I'm a very scary person :/

About being too cold, she did have a rug and with the tantrum she was throwing she must have warmed up! Going to get the rest off tomorrow. Definitely trying the cotton balls idea! Also got some sedalin... You know, just in case.

Who am I kidding, that's the first thing she's getting.

Sorry misread.

The key is to keep the clippers on them, not to get wound up yourself, and just allow them to calm down.

Yeah, completely agree. She was being so good up until then as well, I was so pleased with her. Ah well, try again tomorrow. Cotton balls in ears + sedalin + a whole load of patience = success???
