Hi
My daughters jumping pony (up to 80cm) is 18 years old. Performance was lessening. Got full set of x rays and no arthritic changes at all. Vet injected steriods into front coffins. She has improved slightly but not back on top form.

Vet has suggested Arthrimid in the front coffins and potentially hocks or just steroids in the hocks. She can also do Arthrimid in the hocks but obvs the cost is more

Is Arthrimid wroth the money?

Yes, arthramid is well worth the money, and it needn't be either/or with steroids - my vets now routinely use both at the same time for best results :).

ETA Ah, but no arthritic changes seen? Not sure what to suggest there.
nothing to show on the xrays

when she put the needle in the front coffins - supposedly a thick fluid is supposed to come out. If its watery then they are lacking in the joint fluid. One foot was watery - the other was bone dry.

My vets used both in coffin joints and hocks on my 19 year old Arab he was lame in front and behind, went sound in about 10 days after the treatment so a success for me and he showed slight changes.

Arthramid is 100% worth the money

Although id be cautious of injecting joints that show no changes unless a positive joint block was done ?

I have just had steroids put in my daughters 16yr old pony’s hocks without x rays, just based on clinical signs. She wasn’t really lame, just not wanting to canter one way and not happy having hinds lifted.

The difference has been dramatic so I’ll happily pay for arthramid when the steroids run out. Arthramid first time I thought was too expensive.

So yes I’d put steroids in then if it helps do arthramid next time. I wouldn’t bother with all the ££££ diagnostics personally. It’s an old pony it probably just needs a bit help.
