can whippets get arthritis at less than 2 years old?

hes never raced (although does chase things very fast) and he is very big. it took him ages to learn how to walk properly without falling over but now runs whennever he can.

could he have arthritis or joint problems at two?
 
Yes, is the short answer. Arthritis is not just due to wear and tear; it can result from trauma to a joint and the bone going into 'hyper' repair mode and laying down osteophytes.
 
No, no vet, he's fine after he's got up and creaked to the door!

He was fed pedigree puppy (i think) up until about 8 months and then fed normal pedigree adult.

He gets regular dried chicken fillets and rawhide bones, (never gets real bones as hejust licks the outside and then gets bored.)

No supplements either, google brought no answers up on that front.
 
yeah thats why we havent taken him because we dont think he actually needs painkillers, hes not in pain, he runs like anything and he eats fine, its just in the morning and we dont see the point in spending money on drugs that he doesnt realy need.
 
No offence, if he took ages to learn how to walk without falling over, and is stiff in the mornings at that age, he needs to see a vet.
Joint problems in a dog that young are not good, it is not normal, young dogs should not 'creak'.
The vet is the best person to tell you if he is happy/pain free or needs drugs.
Running around and eating does not mean he is not in pain, trust me.

My dog was running around and eating fine, but stretching a bit too much for my likeness and had a bit of tightness in his hind leg, it didn't move just quite as freely as his other legs - if I had guessed, I would have said there was something wrong with his hip - an x-ray revealed he had put out one of his vertebrae and it was cleared up quickly with rest and a short course of drugs. If I'd have ignored it and kept exercising him as normal, it could have gotten much worse.

Even just to put your mind at rest, I am sure it is nothing serious, but please take him to the vet.
