Arthritis - CBD oil ?????

My 10 year old has really slowed up. She has always had joint issues so has been on supplements for a while but I think it is now beginning to catch up with her. Before I end up with Metacam has anyone tried CBD oil with any success?

I think you have to use the very expensive/high grade stuff to see any sort of improvement.

Just a warning, you may end up with a lot of bots/automated replies/advertising, as the topic seems to attract them, unfortunately.

Totally agree, lots of scams around, I bought some for my arthritis and unknowingly ticked that I agreed to T&C's on the website on F&B to get a small free bottle and was scammed for £130.
Fortunately I got it back from the bank but I was very upset at the time. It didn't help much either.

The company name was something Nordicky. Say no more.
 
I think you’ll find it cheaper to get a prescription from your vet and buy the medication online. The strength you’d need would work out expensive, with no guarantees it would do anything.
 
IF you could find good quality oil to start with and IF you could afford it, and IF it worked, you’d need a large dose to impact a horse, and that would be very costly.
All herbs/oils/medications are bandaid solutions and not a ‘cure’...as ‘cure’ means no medication, whatever form that is, is needed.
Instead i’d go back to basics via diet and nutrition. Calcium/phosphorus ratio balancing, mineral/vitamin balancing. Gut health focus, re-populate with probiotics. Look at quality of forage/grass. Mycotoxicosis can cause a chronic inflamed condition, presenting as numerous symptoms, as the immune system is constantly triggered by mould spores in hay, for instance.
So first go back to basics, quality forage, minerals/vits, balanced ratio’s.

If you dont supplement omega 3 over winter if your horse is fed majority hay, they can come out of winter low on omega 3, which is naturally anti-inflammatory. Lots of omega 3 in grass so they catch up in summer.
You said youre using supplements so the above may not be news to you.

10 is fairly young for a horse to be slowing down, so definitely warrants closer diet investigation.
 
A friend really rates this stuff. She’s a senior nurse so isn’t easily swayed by gimmicks. She reckons it’s saved her horses life and has given her herself (and some dogs too) a much better quality of life.

I swear by yumove advance 360, only available from the vet. It makes a real difference to my 13 year old labrador, a better effect than metacam which doesn't seem to make any difference to her.
If she needs more I'm going to try Galliprant next.

Sorry I know you asked about CBD oil but the supplement works so well for my dog I had to mention it!

Thank you. I am listening to all advice. Tbh I am devastated at how old she suddenly looks. She has always been my little firecracker. I wouldn't think of keeping her beyond being happy to am keen to keep her happy as long as I can.

Do you happen to know what the difference is. The ingredients look the same?
 
I honestly don't know the difference, I've tried her without twice and after about five days she starts to get stiff, goes back on it and loses the stiffness.
The vet says he can't believe how well she is having seen her xrays! I wouldn't hesitate to give her stronger stuff if she was in pain or unhappy. As I said metacam didn't do anything for her so I've discussed Galliprant with my vet and we'll try that if she ever looks to be in pain.

I have been using yumove extra strength for my terrier and she has really improved. She would get really stiff in one of her legs and the vet couldnt find anything wrong with her.

I changed the supplement to Winston and Porter and Green Lipped Mussel. I could see she could move in a more fluid way and less stiff on the new supplement. But she was so reluctant.

Easter Sunday. Realised. She was blind. I must be the worst dog owner ever.

There's another dog in the house and she is the cleverest, confident dog and I completely missed all the signs.

With hindsight I realised why was she was reluctant to move and in certain places like changing from light to dark and after some steps up or down she didn't want to walk.

Three adults in the house and we all caught on at the same time so the last bit was very sudden.

Nothing can be done - nothing could have been done.

But she's happier now as we have made life a bit easier for her.

Stupid dog owner!

Ahh don't blame yourself, sometimes it's not always obvious. Sometimes when I'm in the park and the dog is say 500 yards away and I've left her behind (always making sure she's in my line of sight) she will put her head up like a pointer does and look for me. Sometimes I see her lock on to someone else and go darting towards them, it's not the first time I've seen her do this. So I wave my hands above my head like a crazy whilst yelling, and then she 'sees' me and changes direction. She is either stupid or short sighted - I'm not sure which at this moment in time. :p:D
