If any similar thread's ben on, apologies, I had a quick scan, but really SHOULD be doing work :o

My humoungous chap has recently been diagnosed with arthritis in his pastern joints, and has since been on a couple of bute a day (up to 4 a day for a short period), now stable and seemingly sound on 2 thankfully. Now, I have planned to get him a pair of magnetic boots for wear whilst he is stabled at night in the winter, he's staying out 24/7 as long as possible, but will be in probably October time onwards at night only. Now, I want to enable the best possible use of these, so wondered whether taking his feathers off would help? he's a feathery chap, I much prefer these left on, as they provide protection, warms, never known his skin get wet etc. If I take feathers off, his fronts will be cold in the day, whihc I want to avoid, friend suggested turnout boots, now, her chap has them, and Ive never been keen on them as they always seem very wet, muddy and cold when I've brought him in for her, P will more than likely try to get them off also. Now, if I leave his feathers on, he can be out without them, but then at night will the magnetics DO anything? Or do I take the lot off, get turnouts on him and hope for the best? I really want to avoid taking the feather odd if the turnout boots just end up getting damp inside and not helping the arthritis out at all!

FYI he's just turned 12 (Saturday ;-)), has only been ridden (10mins) once in the passed 4 months, and can't see it happening much over winter either sadly.

Ay advice?

Keep the feathers the magnets will work through them, a lady on my yard has some for her cob im not sure which type equi-chaps i think. Dont take feathers off as the warmth is very important. but hers work through the cobs of her welsh cob and he has lotsss!!
