My retriever chester is 11 he still has a walk every day which he loves but in the evening is struggling to get up.I have bought him magnetic collar and he has joint supplements. Can anyone else think of anything else to help.We have tiles and laminate and hes getting worried about slipping so I have put down mats .Hes ok on my carpet areas but looks very uncomfortable getting up .
I have also tried cider vinegar which didnt help and glucosomine tablets.
I have some rimadryl tablets if he looks very stiff but only use them occassionally.

Go to your vets and they will give you anti inflammatory drug that will really help. My old boy was transformed after a couple of days on the drug.

The magnetic coller & chondrition supplements helped our old goldie girl. laminate is very slippy for them and mabs needed help getting up on it and sometimes slipped and fell. matting is a good idea.

Unfortunately it's something that you just have to live with with an older goldie. you could also try keeping his claws clipped short & the fluff between the his pads trimmed neat to help reduce slipping and tripping.

Oh and make sure he's kept dry, it might be good to buy a little raincoat for walks as their coats take AGES to dry and lying about damp doesn't do them any favours. Mabs use to come in and flop upsides down on a towel ready for her paws and tummy to be towel dried.

Lots of cuddles are essential.

I looked at his claws last night and have decided to clip them.Im not letting vet do it again she made him bleed.Cuddles are not a problem

Go to the vet and discuss it, i have not found joint supplements to work in either of our arthritic dogs (lab and retriever), metacam is the only thing that helps although previcox has good results I've seen as well, ours are better on metacam.
Sorry but going through the old 'alternative' remedies can only get so far.

Cortaflex really helped our old goldie - was a different dog on it - unfortunately it didn't like her stomach so she went onto Synequin with very good results.

A friends old choc lab is on Metacam and he really rates that too

Ditto that. Previcox (sp?) gave Puppy a whole new lease of life.

I was a bit miffed with the vet .Took him for a ear infection and tried to discuss his arthritis and she told me to book another appointment as she was busy which means another consultation fee. That is why I asked for opinions on drugs before I go back.I have some rimadryl in stock so Im using that at the moment .

Cellie - have a look on global Herbs website - energy and leap - my friend has been using it on her old collie (now 16/17!) for the last 5 years with great success. He used to come out on rides with us and at about 12 was getting a bit stiff, trouble jumping in and out the car etc. Within 2 days of taking these he was pinging around like a puppy!! Has kept him mobile and able to enjoy his walks - although his days of being out with the horse have gone due to being blind and deaf now!!

We have our 14 year old goldie on Joint Aid. She's got arthritis in her back right leg quite badly from an accident and is now generally getting stiffer. She's been on this for about 2 years now and is doing really well on it. She still gets two walks a day and bounces around
