I have osteoarthritis in my fingers which can be painful when riding. Human glucausamine/chondroiting supplements dont seem to have any effect (ive tried the healthspan ones which are glucosamine, chondroitin combined with msm and cod liver oil).

I'd like to try cosequin for humans but cant find it on any uk websites- maybe it isnt available in UK. Does anyone use it - where do they buy it? What is the different between equine cosequin and human ?

Does anyone have same condition and have they found anything that helps?

Are you sure it's osteoarthritis? I ask because I thought that was what was wrong with me. I had very painful fingers with some joint swelling especially in winter. Turns out it was a vitamin d deficiency which has been corrected and fingers are fine now.
 
I also suffer from it and have been using Naproxen but am thinking about trying Global Herbs 'Ease', which is the equivalent of the equine 'MoveFree Plus'
Has yours been worse this year?
 
Hi Bordermare - the GP's not been much help - wont do any tests. My fingers aren't so much swollen as having bony growths which I think is osteoarthritis. I'll certainly check out the vitamin D angle though - thanks for the tip

It is getting gradually worse - it started about 4 years ago in 1 finger, when I was in my late 30s, and more finger joints are becoming affected
 
My mum suffers with really bad arthritis in her fingers´so will be interested to hear what you guys think help, i did hear that cider vinegar helps with inflamation(though would not fancy burping that up!!)

GP wasn't interested in my moans about fingers either. Hospital picked up the vit D problem when I was referred for something else. The consultant I saw seemed to think vit D deficiency was a widespread problem and something that GP's should be looking at when patients present with tiredness and joint pain.

Just because we're outside with horses all the time doesn't mean we get enough vit D. I've always got gloves on, hat, piles of clothes in winter and in summer long sleeves because of flies!
 
I think I have this too, painful fingers with bony lumps that hurt! Also starting in my toes, knees and elbows. I'm currently trying Krill oil and turmeric and I think it might be helping a bit.
 
I also have late 30s onset what I think to be arthritis in fingers, again, its not just imflammation, the bones are enlarged and knobbly. Worst effect is I cant grab onto sheep any more, fingers too weak to hold on! Horse stuff not too bad atm. Retired GP a couple of farms away certainly immediately said it was arthritis.

Havent been to doc as short of steroids (bad for long term use) Im not sure what they can do really, but interested in case lack of vitD might be exacerbating so will look at that, esp as am in N Scotland where we dont get as much sun! (hence, they think the higher levels of MS etc)

I thought the scientific trials on the MSM/glucosamine for humans came out with poor results from memory tho I could be wrong. shame they arent cheaper then we could try just in case.

yes that's what my fingers are like - my knee is a bit suspect too -after a jumping session its sore!

Ive solved the initial question - the human form of cosequin seems to be called cosamin - it does seem to be available in uk but costs a fortune - £67 for 230 tablets seems to be as good as it gets. Cosequin has had loads of scientific studies done on it - the vet recommended it for my horse which is why I'd like to try the human form

I'm going to get some vitamin D supplement as living in cumbria also doesnt get much sun plus work in an office

BTW my dad has arthritis in his knee (result of old skiing accident) and a surgeon recommended turmeric and he finds it helps - he's taken it for years - though I tried it and didnt find much change
 
I recommend Cortaflex HA; been taking it for various aches and pains, then one morning forgot to take it and rode out. Felt totally fecking knackered for the rest of the day and just couldn't work out why, then realised I'd forgotten to take the cortaflex.

My chiro recommends it as well, but its important to pay the little bit extra and get the one with the HA and not just the straight cortaflex.
 
From what you are describing, your symptons sound like rheumatoid rather than osteoarthritis. I would go back to your GP & ask to be referred to a specialist. :)
