arthritis - magnetic pulse treatment

My horse is 11 years old and I have been advised by the vet that he has mild arthritis in his knee. He has significant muscle wastage to his shoulder which indicates that the arthritis has gone undetected for some time. He has had one steroid injection which has improved his lameness though he is not sound. At the time of the injection he had a small swelling on his knee joint which has increased in size - if you press it you can feel the fluid(?) move... Should he have another injection - I have him on a joint supplement. I am also thinking of buying/renting a magnetic pulse unit as I have read that 'static' magnet wraps are not that effective. I think the pulse unit would possibly be a wise investment if you think of the cost of vet fees in the long term.

I asked my vet last week re magnetic boots as my horse has been treated for arthritis in his hock,he had surgery 6 weeks ago..He said it might be beneficial so I wouldnt rush into buying one doesnt sound as if they are proven as helping.Newmarket joint supplement is supposed to be one of the best supplements as it is very pure.Ive heard that you can need several injections before they come sound.My horse had the muscle wastage but in his rump area relating to the hock.I would consult with your vet again.

Usually I think you would have a course of injections but it could be relative to the extent of the arthritis...you can have 3 in a year of the strong type. Depends which type you had I suppose. My mare had course of two which was felt worked really well...so we kept the other one in the bank for that year...didnt need it! I would speak to your vet about further injections...also about the swelling. (my mare had it in both hock joints..she didnt have any swelling but it may be diff for a knee injection).
I don't believe there is any proven medical evidence about magnetic really helping...so I've been told by a few professionals...of course tho some people swear by it.
My mare was put on newmarket joint supplement too...highly recommended...by various vets and equine clinics.

My horse is 6 and he had been diagnoised with Athritis in his fetlock and coffin joint. I got told by Large Animal Hospital Vet that it looked unlikely he would return to ridden work. They injected him with Cortisone inject and he didnt go sound, I got him on New Market Joint Supplement, put Magnetic Boots on him and got him IRAP treatment and hes finally went sound.. Hes just went back into ridden work now.. Thats after 4 month off.. The Vet said Magnectic boots wouldnt work but i put them on During day and have magnectic pastern wraps he wears for a while a night. If they didnt work surely there wouldnt be such a big market for them? Hope everything works out well for your horse.

My boy has arthritis of the coffin joint - I would give any thing a go! you wont know unless you try, I personally think the best thing for my lad is to have as much turn out as possible. on a brighter note my lad has been mostly sound for a year now, (hacking only) he has odd days but I think that's mostly on days when he has a prat in the field, the worst thing for him seems to be rutted or hard ground and twisting & turning. he's only on a joint supplement, he is not on Bute, or any thing like that yet. its such a frustrating thing though, a few weeks back he was definitely stiff, not enough to notice unless you was looking for it, he only went for a short hack, Then last week he jogged all the way round & jumped up a 5ft back side ways (he didnt see the small boy about to shut a gate) & he came back sound as a pound! He's only 13 its just not fare...
