My boy has just been diagnosed with arthritis to the pastern joint, I wondered if anyone could recommend any good supplements to help with this?

My tb has recently been diagnosed with arthritis of the fetlock. Although not the ultimate supplement you are probably looking for, I have added linseed oil to his feed and this seems to help him as he is certainly not resting his bad leg anymore. Might help?

I feed turmeric to G, can't say if it helps as I give it to him as a preventative but the studies on it are certainly good and its very cheap to feed.

I know you are looking for a supplement but have you thought of trying magnets? I have a 20 year old shetland who has arthritis in her stifle. She was on half a sachet of bute a day to keep the pain under controll. I tried Cortaflex with no obvious effect. She still had great difficulty getting around. She was so bad at one time I thought it would be kinder to have her PTS. I then came across Brod Pods which is a more advanced magnet made by the makers of Bio Flow. I tried some and she is now off all painkillers and is moving around easily. Because she is small I used the canine ones, two on each hind leg attached to a velcro watch strap. They do equine ones now too. I can highly recommend these magnets. Just type Brod Pod into your search bar and you will find them.

I feed a joint supplement called Joint FX (though am not 100% convinced joint supps actually do much good, but that's a different thread) and linseed. My boy has one sachet of Danilon per day to help with his ringbone. My vet has mentioned magnetic, seemed to think they could be useful.

Thank you everyone for your replies and suggestions...I will certainly look in them all.

Lelly - yes i have just purchased a pair a bioflow boots, and am awaiting the delivery

i have a 7yo mare who was diagnosed with hock arthritis. Ive spent so much money on different supplements and none have worked. Howeve i recently had a free 30 day trial of Maxaflex and my mare has never felt so good. She has all her spring back and is jumping amazingly, she even nearly jumped me off in the warm up area yesterday! I also add a bit of boswellia serrata to it and this combination really seems to be helping her. I think like with all things its a bit of trial and error as some thing work for some horses and not others

how do you get these free trials? my 19 yr old cob has just been diagnosed with arthritic hocks and his clicky noises have got worse. He is sound once he gets going but is very sore when standing still and rests his bad leg at every opportunity. I have added linseed oil to his feed and a friend purchased some equine america 10000 plus msm powder for me, but haven't noticed much difference. I don't know how long oil takes to kick in and help (if it's going to) I have also considered adding devils claw to his diet as well as I don't like the thought of bute as a long term medication.

It was a bit of luck really, i emailed maxavita asking if they were looking at sponsoring any new riders in 2012 and if so would they consider me anf the emailed back saying yes they might be and would consider me but in the meantime would i like a free 30 day trial of maxaflex! They also sent me some gell patches for knocks and swellings :) very nice helpful people to, i had told them about my mare with hock arthritis. I must say it is the first supplement ive used and actually seen a difference :)
