I’m try to find 100ml bottles of Arthrocam for dogs.
Someone else collected the prescription for me, it’s not what we usually have and I’m struggling to find it.

* also £39.50 for the prescription 😬

Omg.
I can find everything but; metacam, rheumocam, Meloxidyl, loxicom, inflacam, etc

It does seem a bit daft that you can't get it considering the active is the same. I think it's the sodium benzoate concentration that different so they don't infringe on the copyright of other brands.
If you could just sign a disclaimer to say 'i know it's not the exact brand but won't sue if it causes side effects' or words to that effect, it would be so much simpler

I will keep looking for you though

Or ask for a prescription for Meloxicam 1.5mg/ml solution x 100ml which is the active ingredient and should allow you purchase the cheapest matching brand

You won’t find arthrocam for sale online as it’s a specific IVC brand, the brand the same parent company sells on their online pharmacy is called Rheumocam, the vets likely don’t have the others on their system to book out and the vet probably did the one the system allowed, if you ask them and say you can’t get Arthocam anywhere, then they will realise the error and face palm at the annoying systems for doubling their workload and provide you with a new prescription for probably metacam or loxicom. This happens quite often at my place, we don’t charge for a new script in this case, because specifically arthrocam is only stocked in vets (not every vet knows this, I do because this has happened to me three times and I did some googling of the medications) and it’s not you asking for something else because it’s out of stock (so our mistake and not your preferred being out of stock)

Def get them to re word it (they won't emailed me my repeat prescriptions, I have to pick them up) I have just paid £39 for a prescription of metacam and they kindly put 3 repeats on there. I also had a prescription for cartrophen (another £39) so with the visit to check poppy dog over before prescribing it was £140

Luckily the metacam is v cheap at viovet and cartrophen not bad either (I inject her myself, can order needles on viovet)

I will get in touch today.
I’m very happy to pay for a prescription but stand by that being too much.
That’s not just my opinion, there is the proposed cap of I think £16 and the average cost is less than £30.
My horse vet charges £15 and I’m sure it’s much work for her and she is just as qualified as a small animal vet.

Pretty sure it's vet discretion ... Think pet is meant to have checkup every 6 months .. so they should give you at least enough to last 6 months !! I agree prescription price is shocking. My lovely vet asked if she could just charge once or reduce cost for second charge (she's new to the practice) but was told full price for each item.

Not sure if pets are the same but with medication, if it’s made out to the drug name you can have any brand but if it’s made out to a brand name you can only have that brand.
