For anyone interested, I just received the bill for my horse's hock arthroscopy and aftercare. Including x-rays, five nights stabling and nursing care, and six visits afterwards to change dressings and remove stitches, the complete bill is £1800. Thank god for insurance. The arthroscopy and GA alone were £700. So not too bad really, I would think.

Hey, thats interesting as my horse is booked in for the 16 April but on his fetlock. I'm expecting around £2500 but I've only got £2000 left on my insurance to claim

, so your size bill would be much appreciated !

How's your horse doing?

I posed for you, but I couldn't remember your user name! Good luck for your horse's op.

Mine is doing well. Still some residual swelling but he's sound and pain free, touch wood.

Thats great news.

I've found a livery yard where mine can go for his box rest and they've got a horse there thats had the same op & he is now exercising normally and jumping apparently - so I have a glimmer of hope, although just sound for hacking/dressage would be great.

My bill was 2500.00 but i has a specialist called in for my horse and his bill alone was 800.00. Id say it came to 3500.00 inc all the after care and drugs/ injections etc as well.

Your bill was a bargin!

My bill is at £3600 for hock surgery and insurance company are trying to wriggle out .Give you one guess who they are.

Thats disgusting cellie!

How that company are still trading i dont know. Im with NFU and they have been amazing and paid everything without question althought they have put my premiums up LOADS which im not happy about at all.

I had post op conplications tho as well so my bill is currently hitting a few quid short of the 5k now.

Cellie, that is so crap. I'm with SEIB and can't rate them highly enough. Same horse had expensive surgery last year for a fractured splint bone, and they've dealt with that, and this surgery, so well. Never quibbled or queried, just paid up straight away. And are a pleasure to deal with on the phone.

Im appealing and my vet will back me up.They sent me a form I thought it said what do you intend to use your horse for so I circled pc xc etc although he has not been sound enough to do these activities.Apparently it said what do you use your horse for and they have turned me down on the grounds that I am not covered for xc.It was a clerical error on my part although I would like to read /see the form again to be sure.I will continue with my appeal and take it to the ombudsman if I have to.Ive just had a quote from nfu they are double the monthly fee and have excluded his legs for tendon /ligament because he has had mild injuries before although he is fully recovered.Might follow it up further as they have a good reputation.

Might give your co. a call today Im going to change cant deal with all this worry especially when your worried about the horse as well.I love your pics Ive just posted a link under -show name needed- with pics of my horse and daughters but I dont know how to load them .

Cellie - I have to admit whilst NFU were brilliant for paying out etc and really helpful but when I came to renew I had awful trouble. Premiums were through the roof and lots of exclusions (including the back and anything connected to it - did that leave me anything?! he hadn't even injured his back!). Went to KBIS and they have been brilliant. Just paid out £5k on collateral ligament treatment, couldn't rate them highly enough.
