Artic breeds / Wolf Dogs

Are they wolf like?

Dont have any direction experience with those arctic breeds although I do have quite a bit with the Siberian huskys and a little bit with the malamutes. Obviously slightly different but I believe the breed characteristics are quite similar.

Both the husky and the malamute (infact, you can probably add all the sled dogs into this category) can make amazing pets, but they most definitly arent for everyone.

Im just taking mine out for a quick bolt in the woods but if you write down any questions, I'll be happy to answer them as best I can when I get back

[/ QUOTE ]I'm sure you'll get one... Beej mentioned he wanted it to be kennelled outside.. so he'd best start building that dog pen

I have a Northern Inuit who is now eighteen months old. I've had him since eight weeks. Feel free to pm me and questions - and yes they do howl and it's beautiful!!! Not sure the vets thought so when he howled the place down when he came round from his castration!! They are wonderful pets but are big dogs and are a handful and need lots of training and stimulous. Mine is rarely on a lead and I adore him!

I have two dogs - Jinks the Inuit and a cross breed from the animal sanctuary. Yes I work but they are not a breed that can cope with being left alone for a long time - I work shifts. He is very very friendly and social and very quick to train. I had private lessons with a very good trainer and he amazed her. The two get on well most of the time with the odd jealous squabble. Not sure I'd recommend them with children only because they are big and bouncy when young! look at Northerninuit.net for the breeder I used and you'll see lots of lovely photo's. They make fantastic pets and are very loyal but as I said they do need training!

Just out of interest, what would I expect to pay for a pup?
Do they get hip scored?

[/ QUOTE ]

Parents get hip scored. Mine get done at 15-18 months.

You'll pay between £600-£1,000 depending on the dog. Not a cheap breed. They also have a gluten allergy so have to be fed on a gluten free diet (not neccessarily JW or Royal Canin, Burgess do a fab gluten free dog feed for under £20.00 a bag). I'll PM you...have lots to say

Speak to Penny she will explain everything. Think she has hip scored for the last three generations now. We paid about £700 I think. Jinks looks more like his daddy! Very very wolfy looking everyone stops and admires him!

Belles_mum where abouts are you guys based out of interest?

We have just the one sibe at the mo, although have been looking for another for quite some time. We've tended to find the english breeder's are breeding them more and more finely however.. where as ours is quite a stocky, chunky little thing. Consquently, we've considered importing from denmark (which is where our first came from):-

I cant imagine living with 10 of them, although I bet its great fun
