I can only find a couple of horses to look at? We're looking for something for my son to bring on or add competition experience to and aside from a couple at the other end of the country that sound possible I can't find anything else to make the journey worthwhile. Any horses that I do see are 5K plus and although not selling at that from what I can gather I won't be cheeky and offer 2.5K which is about the top of my budget.

Very frustrating as free this weekend coming to view. Where are all of the decent green horses who will make nice RC/PC horses with a bit of work??

Have you tried horsemart and project hoses-they are normally full of reasonablly priced horses. The ones i have sold recentley have all sold for the same price they would have before the recession. I have phoned about a few horses and people seem to be holding out for their asking price despite the recession.

I know of a potential superstar paces to die for elastic and ground covering a fantastic natural jumping ability free schools 1.20m will not jump her over anything bigger than 2'6" at the minute as she is young and learning, she is 4 very well bred out of Ireland. She's not a novice ride as she is a baby but going nicely on the flat, she would be at the top end of your budget too.
She's in Yorkshire just over 16h currently but will probably mature to 16.1, very nicely put together.

Measles - give us some details of what you're looking for and in what region. I think I seem to speak for a few of us when I say I love seeking out horses for people!

As for your dilemma, don't give up. In November my parents bought me a lovely horse (to share with my mum) who is green but could be fab with some work! She was around your price range.

We saw another too who was great. You just have to get the hang of trawling through horsemart, horsedeals, etc.

Thanks, everyone. Anything from 15hh upwards is fine as long as the 15/15.1hh are are middleweight. Age from rising 5yo - c.12yo. Anywhere is ok but brownie points if closeish to Scotland.

Hollywoozle - thanks for the link. I called about that one last week and left a message but they haven't got back to me so I assume he's sold.

I also love looking at ads but not when they are for me!

Why not? Now I know a lot of those on CR feel insulted when offered less for their horses but it always worth trying to do a deal. You have nothing to lose. If a horse is not too far away have a look, make an offer and wait. If they want it gone they make take less and save on livery, shoeing, insurance etc. I have done it and it can be done. Advertised at £4750 I paid £2750 and he is a star.

Measles, are you looking to buy privately?

A yard in Fife imports loooovely youngsters from Belgium for showjumping and Raymond Gatherum is a seriously decent guy - you could give him a ring, tell him your budget and see what he has on the yard at the moment?
