I wear mine for hacking, jumping and if I feel a bit unsafe when schooling. I have no hesitation in reaching for it and no embaressment in wearing it.
I have my horse at uni with me, and other people make fun of me for it, especially as I'm a dressage rider as opposed to a jumper but I really don't care! They all swallow their words when I tell them I had an accident 3 years ago (at 15 years old) where I was told if I wasn't wearing my BP I'd have broken my back. That day I had second thoughts about wearing it as I thought it looked "uncool". I thank my lucky stars to this day that I did ..
I don't understand the stigma with BP's. I don't think they look stupid or uncool or anything of the type. Quite frankly, I'd far rather wear one and be safe(r), than sat in a wheelchair in regret ...
