Ascot sales! Should I?? Shouldn't I??

Oh gosh he's so lovely, thank you everyone!! I paid less than I had budgeted but more than I've paid for an ex-racer before (£20 and £450). I was jumping up and down when I signed for him!

I intend to do some hacking and rc stuff with him this winter and play polocrosse next summer if he's into it. He's around 15.3, 6yo and well raced on the flat, winning 6 races and placed 11 times. He's won almost £23k, seems sad that I just bought him for £800. He will have a good home with me anyway, if he doesn't play polocrosse I may sell him next year but my hope is that he will be a really good allrounder and smart enough on his feet to play.

Now I really must concentrate on selling some other beasties!!

Ps. I've just realised how scummy my field looks in those pictures! There really is only one side of barbed wire and not that much poo!!

Only £800 :eek: With my love of thoroughbreds I might sneak out to some of these sales myself! I agree, it seems sad when they have worked so hard and won so much :( But I hope you get on well with him! He looks bigger than 15.3hh, I thought he was about 16.1hh, keep us posted on how he gets on :)

And yes, I am one very jealous reader!

No, sorry I made sure I got there late so I wouldn't buy anything else!! Got there around 50 horses early in any case, was so severely tempted by a few, really nice horses selling for under £600. Saw a lovely (6yo?) by Kayf Tara out of a Strong Gale mare sell for only £1200, now that's a pointer to watch out for!

I would recommend Ascot for anyone wanting to buy a tb, do not go if you are not buying or you will be climbing the walls however! They also had a racing arab sale today, I didn't stay for it but would be very interested to see how much they went for, they were gorgeous too. Although not nearly as marvellous as my new boy. His name is Copper King by the way- seems to answer to Copper already so not much point changing his pet name I guess :)
 
Good luck with him he looks a nice sort. I wanted to go and buy a young colt but couldn't go in the end just wondered about their prices, I'll just have to wait until they are posted. All the best.
 
Aw, that's a shame. There will be another one soon. The colts always seem to go quite cheaply, I suppose they're more difficult to stable/turn out and if they were that special as potential racers they would be elsewhere. Next sales I bet they'll all be cheaper so fingers crossed for you!
 
Aww he's gorgeous! He reminds me very much of my friend's old horse, he was a super, super boy and I am sure Copper will be too!
 
He is lovely! I would love to go to buy a filly- only really do mares- but I just wouldnt know where to start. Once my old chap has gone i guess I would be able to do a colt though. I would need something that was exemplary in the stable as i have to be able to handle them on my own. That is what would worry me tbh. I think it helps to be "in the know" unless you are an expert and would be able to take a gamble. My problem is i can never bring myself to sell them or pts if they totally break. :) (Not saying you can do that btw just saying why i would worry about buying at the sales.:) )

Haha, I know what you mean, don't worry I would only pts if no other option but have no fluffy bunny feelings about it, not insulted! ;) Don't mind selling on if the horse doesn't suit although I am very fussy about where they go.

They are mainly geldings there, not many colts at all. I used to have mainly mares but I now somehow seem to have evened out and have 3 of each (ouch, did I really just say that??). Possibly not a great idea to buy from sales if you're nervous of buying the wrong thing. Thankfully, I have lots of help on hand if I need it, a sturdy non-falling-off saddle and very little brain!! :D
 
He looks lovely, well done, can we please have updates on how you re-train him? it would be interesting to follow you both to see how you are doing?

Can you do a HHO blog :D

Hahaa thanks! Er I can try but to be fair I don't really "retrain" them, I just ride em like normal horses and then either do it or don't do it :o then I try again in a different way (crying/screaming/beating/cuddling etc) ;) besides I'm no Hovis...

I'll def post updates though, I think he's going to be special (in a GOOD way). :D

I think the help is really important tbh. Even if it is just to hold them whilst you get on and call the air ambulance when you fall off!:D

*snort* That is funny but oh so true! Don't worry, I have my trusty stock sadle to start off with ;)

I'm gonna get on him tonight in the round pen so wish me luck. :eek:
 
So pleased you got him :D I can see why he caught your eye he is a lovely boy, really look forward to hearing updates on your progress :)

Thank you, we will follow up the two lots, but def go next month been looking for a TB colt for a while now just nothing out there, well with our req anyway. x Keep us posted about your boy, once again good luck.

Wowwee FarrierLover, he is stunning! Well done on such a fab purchase. You certainly have an eye for the lovely ones. Didn't you say you saw him at the last sale but couldn't buy?
