Hi just wondering if anybody has had any experiences of using ashbrook horseboxes in nantwich cheshire for new builds or repairs??:) many thanks

I think they close to south view, but i Highly recommend Ohkley sports homes they have done plenty of work on my lorry and sam is a very helpful guy. I have seen some of the lorrys that they have built and all I can say is stunning!

I commissioned a new build box with Nick at Ashbrook early last year. My personal experience is be very wary as I now have a horsebox without the payload requested. My specification was a contemporary 2 horsebox for away shows. He quoted a 3 month lead time upon finding a chassis. After 3 months and still a long way to go he promised me a lorry to borrow as I needed a box asap as I was hiring a 3.5t. He gave me a cattle wagon despite initially offering an old oakley type. I took it but my 17hh horse did not fit so I returned it whilst still awaiting my new wagon. I was then told yes be ready for indoor season, then yes by Christmas ( but the guy who did the spraying had died and he had staff issues lots of excuses)and I eventually got it 6 weeks ago of which he then said he could have done with it for a few more weeks. I was very patient throughout the process despite al the excuses and even having to buy a second lorry whilst I waited for my 3 month build that took a year and the upholsterer was still working on upon collection. He asked if he could add a slide out side saying the rep stated only add 50kg an that he had never done one before. I agreed obviously thinking not a lot of weight. Upon collection he told me that it had been valeted...I took it home spent 3hours cleaning the finger marks and sawdust out of the drawers. I paid then for a professional horsebox valeter that commented that the paint job was not very good. I then took the lorry to a weighbridge to find that rather than the 1500kg payload that he had told me before I made the final payment and collected that it was in fact 1000kg!! I rang Nick and he said yes the spray hadnt been finished and reacted. He needed to put a coating on it and rub it down and that the payload had to be done via each axel so it was wrong. I said ok please send me the payload certificate that he had and paint to be sorted too. I heard nothing for 10 days so I took it a weighbridge that does both axels....surprise still 1000kg. I texted him and left him a voicemail expressing my annoyance and that I now have a very nice one horse motorhome asking why had it not occurred to him that the slide out side would add half a ton to the weight as it was the last thing to do and I was only doing it at his suggestion! This was 2 weeks ago and I havent heard anything since. I have expressed my disappointment via text a week ago and still no response. I am now trying to sell my box as it will not take 2 horses for an away show. When I was looking at older wagons I wouldnt even look at one with only 1500 kg payload as knew not enough hence deciding on a newer wagon. I will be honest with anyone who is interested but I will lose 10's of thousands of pounds as really it has less payload than a 3.5t so no use for me at away shows. Very disappointing, very unprofessional. I dont even have a proper receipt, no gas safety certifcates,no warranty, no instructions how to use the fridge/cooker/blow heating/electric panel, an unfinished paint spray and a 1 horse away show horsebox. I am heartbroken as got a loan to upgrade it and I will probably lose this money. His desire to put a slideout side has given me an overpriced unsuitable horsebox and he hasnt got the decency to admit his mistake and try to resolve it. If he had then I wouldnt be posting this but as I havent heard from him since I now know the truth of his lies. Dont buy off him. go to kevin parker or someone similar with established history, professionalism and even a detailed specification.

To update my comments as the forum will not allow me to delete the posting. Today I have heard from Nick at Ashbrook horseboxes and he has offered to resolve all issues including payload and paint free of charge. I will finally have the lovely box that I ordered and drop it off next Friday to be rectified.

I suspect the rectification is only because you posted here! Social media is such a useful tool nowadays.

How do you rectify the payload without re-building the entire lorry?
Be very careful that you get it back.
The trouble is that there are so many 'chancers' building horseboxes who really do not know what they are doing or have the resources to build them properly.
Advice is go to an established horsebox company were you can see previous examples of their build and talk directly with the horsebox owners.
