Ashford Sales last week

Was anyone at Ashford Sales last week, a mare who was clearly starving and in appalling condition was sent out of the sales after the vet had looked at her as she wasnt fit to be there. The owner then battled to try and load her into his 'trailer' which was knee deep in c**p but she didnt have the strength to go in. Two young girls bartered with him, watched by the crowd and eventually persuaded him to sell her to the for £650, he said he was going to take her home and shoot her. Just ondered if anyone knows how she is doing as I understand the police and RSPCA bacame involved.
 
My friend is a regular and usually knows what is going on I will ask her. Sounds awful - I get really upset.

We bought/rescued my mum's mule from there about 3 years ago. They reckoned he was 6 months old but he 3 if that and was desperate to suckle anything and anyone when we got him home. Luckily a friend had a shetland which ran milk and she adopted him over the winter and he is a strapping little sod now.

Bought Blue from there 4 years ago... woman said he was rising 4yo but he was quite obviously more like just turned 3yo!

Would like to hear what happened to the mare though. I'd like to go every time its on but that would mean taking a day off work each time and thats not really always possible.

I was there.My friend and I had already decided that if noone had brought her we would have done.I would also love to know what happened to her.I brought a pony there myself last week,a real sweetheart too.You are right in that she was sold.With regard to the taking her home to shoot her,well that is quite a common way of travellers trying to get people to buy their horses if they think they can get more money for them.I gather the bloke selling her was arrested,but the vet David who looked at her said that she was in poor condition but otherwise healthy so hopefully the bloke will have been prosecuted under the new animal act for cruelty.
 
I was there and saw Police in the car park but just assumed they normally attended as I was watching the tack sale at the time. By the time I got to look at the horses, their selling had finished and most of them seemed unsold. They all looked in good nick including the mule!
 
Spoke to my friend who said that after she was sent out, lots of people left the ring to buy her.
She was sold outside the ring to someone who clearly felt very sorry for her.
I despise people who send horses to sales in that condition because they know that they will get far more money for the horse in that state than anywhere else.
They tug on people's heart strings and it works. My sister and I went and ended up buying a mule which we disguised as a birthday present for my mum

He was in resonable nick apart from being weaned far too early but was clearly ver distressed. Here is a pic of the now very happy Muley!

The way I see it is that there are kind hearted people out there and I am fairly sure she has landed on her hooves. If I hear anything else I will PM you.

the girl did buy her for the sum of 650.00 the rspca didnt want to know but-- well wishers gave donations for her to be able to buy the horse out right there and then as they only had paid 25deposit
the girl and her mum was so upset by the grotty man and they had rung the rspca hoping they would take it away and they they would put themselves up for the adoption, only the rspca never come, and they didnt have enough money, well wishes topped there money so they could get her- the girls also have a nice new home for her and another well wisher trnsported her for them they did have to wait all day the police were there for cival rights and the man was most annoyed his name was collins and hes a dealer in pluckley and he has many others in the same state or so i was told by people that knew of him..
the girl adn her mate seem niced and they have help and vets waiting for the horses arrival -- shame the rspca cant doa job they are surppose it at a market-- they have the power to seize when and only when police are present-- as you cant do one with out the other-- why-- one is for animal rights the other is for human rights-- had the girl rung up the ilph or bhs she might have got somewhere- the vet said it was mulnurished and that was it--
