I haven't done it personally but from experience I find in CIC's the xc is pretty similar to whatever level you are doing.
Therefore, I don't think the CIC* will differ hugely from the Novice course. Another thing maybe to keep in mind is that later on in the season courses tend to be less forgiving so it could be seen as a higher level Novice. I always find courses are kinder, especially CIC's at the start of the season. But don't let that put you off, if you are already competent at Novice the CIC will be a small stepping stone.
Aske is absolutely stunning and a really well organized event. They run an intermediate there are well so I expect the CIC to be a mixture between both the novice and intermediate. Having said that I have never competed above BE100 so I could be talking tripe!!
I've found that from observing courses too, but not all of them. I competed at floors novice and found majority of it was the CIC*, but found some other courses to be more of the intermediate course, so wasn't sure which type it was! And I did think of that too, however I know some events make some smaller ones for people moving up part way through season, which I thought could maybe be the case? Thankyou for that!
That's good to hear thank you! From what I could gather from shoestring eventing, that's what it looks like! Although there's no CIC* pics since about 2013, the course then looks quite nice so hopefully hasn't changed too much!
