He’s 99.5% reliably friendly meeting other dogs. He loves to play. Might have a little grumble at first but he’s a vocal dog anyway. Not yappy but he makes some strange playing noises!
He hates black labs though, guaranteed hackles up snarly face.
This happens with quiet dogs, bouncy ones on or off lead and dogs or bitches.
Today I stood chatting to a lady for ages with him stood quietly, she had a black lab so with him showing no sign of snappiness being almost side by side but not nose touching we let them say hello and instantly he reacted.?‍♀️
I have no idea if he’d follow through and properly go at them or not. He’s fine with other colour labs ?
It is only ever black labs and to add to the weirdness of this we have one who is his best buddy! ?‍♀️

Absolutely love these replies ?

Todays black lab had a side kick, a black patterdale who he loved, I hope he’s not racist! Maybe it’s the imposter theory.
God bless the Cec. He is a funny character

Jack HATES black labs. Daisy on the other hand turns in to a complete tart around them.

Jack has never been attacked by a black lab, Daisy had. Go figure….,

So odd! My friends husband is terrified of black labs, he too was fine with my old yellow Dougal (although no one could have been scared of him I suppose!)
He can’t explain himself either ?

I know a staffy who is a lovely little thing and comes from a lovely family, but genuinely is terrified of people of colour. We have no idea why, he will always bark and cause a rucus. It's absolutely mortifying!!
Oh dear ? cringe!
I had a horse who was terrified of a certain old lady, it was so bizarre.
She got to the point that she’d hide up the nearest driveway when she saw us!
It was a very very busy village so he saw a huge amount of people!

My friend has told me it may be because they find it harder to read expressions in plain black dogs, and that perhaps the solid colour also makes it harder to read them against certain backgrounds. I don’t know enough about dog eyesight to know it’s that’s at all true. Mine also hates black labs and brown cockerpoos. Even on the other side of the street.

If only we could get inside their heads! My first greyhound (who was black!) once growled at an apparently amiable black lab, that was on a lead. She was great with all dogs, I don't think she ever growled at another dog, but certainly not without reason. It was very strange.

I was walking one of our family GSD's down our road once, and she barked at a black man who had recently moved in. She'd never seen a person of colour before. I was mortified! ?

Zak and Bear were extremely racist. We live in a very diverse area and we did lots of street walks to practise loose lead walking back in the day and they used to bark like crazy at any non-white people. It was excruciating! Bear no longer reacts, so I’m blaming Zak!

I’ve come to the conclusion, mainly since the corgis joined us, not to over think things as they’re dogs and dogs are just, at times, a bit weird about things we’ll never understand. I have to tell myself several times a day with mine of ‘hm just being little weirdos again, not worth the thought process’. Whether that is my eldest rough collie deciding this weekend he will only drink from the red bowl and even when that is empty but the others in the house are full, it must be the red bowl, or my youngest corgi nearly eating my face off and then spending an hour running away from me/hiding and barking like a peasant after me trying to give him a manicure - he has had his nails trimmed as routine every few weeks since he came home a year ago and always loved it. Dogs are weird, leave them to it.

My black patterdale also hates black labs. Must be the foreign blacks that are not to be trusted, good old british ones are okay.

However, as he is a patterdale, he is also not to be trusted!

I used to work for a well known dog’s home in London and would often take a dog out in my lunch hour.
I walked one Staffy who loved all young black males. I was often pulled towards groups of this demographic with a very waggy dog on the end of the lead. Cue embarrassed middle-aged white lady trying to explain why she seemed to be introducing herself to clearly age-inappropriate men.
