Hi,
Part of my college course requires me to complete a mini project and I'm pretty hooked on EMS. I was wondering if anyone could give me ideas on how I can narrow my project down? for example people are doing their project on showjumping and so to narrow it down they are doing about how surfaces effect showjumpers. I hope this makes sense and would really appreciate some ideas:D

I don't know,how about a project on the effects of regular exercise on EMS ponies/horses? We had a little chap with EMS on loan and with us he was ridden every day,which he hadn't been prior to coming to us.I wondered if the regular work was why he showed no symptoms or had any problems despite our grass being far richer than he was used too?
 
Don't know how in depth you need/want to do, but you could do something along the lines of the difference between treating with metformin vs exercise/diet, or the number of ponies that have laminitis that are then diagnosed with EMS/cushings? May well be far more technical than you want though, unfortunately it has been a very long time since I've done a project where I haven't had access to clinical records/lab results so I can't think of much that doesn't use these things!

Murphy88 raises some interesting points.I don't know what percentage of EMS suffers actually get laminitic or whether metformin prevents the likelihood of laminitis occuring.There are all sorts of possibilities there.

You could perhaps look into the main breeds / heights / sex / ages that are diagnosed with EMS? Would require a data base of cases, 'tho.
