Hi all just asking for opinions on assisted DIY prices?

What is the going rate for (horse stabled overnight) putting in a morning feed, changing rug and turning out? Or other end of the day, bringing in and giving feed/haynet (pre-made)?

A friend has offered to have us on effectively assisted DIY whereby they would do the horse in the morning and we’d go up and ride/skip out and make up haynets in the afternoon. DIY in the area ranges from £35 a week to £45 a week with no services or hay or bedding etc.

My friend has offered to do it for £250 a month including am feed, rug and turnout for us each day. We’d have to provide our own hay and bedding etc. that sounds ok I think??

Other option is £400 a month for the above but including ad lib hay and bedding (shavings). I appreciate the extra cost of hay this year and also the hassle of getting it! Storage etc…but thinking the first option might be better?
It’s a 14.2 pony so she doesn’t eat a lot compared to bigger horses and isn’t particularly wet…

In the midlands x

Where I am is DIY but there are a couple of part liveries and I think they pay around an extra £10 a day on top of the normal DIY rate if that’s any help.

So if DIY was £40pw you would be getting the morning feed/turnout/rug change for £2.50 a day. Sounds very reasonable.

With cost of hay now and no grazing due to dry weather I'm using £25pw hay and £16pw bedding but that's for a bigger horse than yours. The £400 doesn't sound unreasonable either. I'm also in the Midlands and hay is in short supply, mine has gone up in price and also bale size has shrunk.

That's about what I pay a month on assisted DIY.

We get a free turn out or a free bring in everyday. I also get trailer parking for that and rug changes where necessary.

Yes we will see how it goes I think, if we can’t get our own hay or it becomes too costly we will perhaps let her supply it and pay the extra…

But after being on yards where “ad lib hay” means 1 net a night I’m a bit skeptical and would rather supply what my horse needs x
