Assisted DIY

My definition would be: to provide a feed/turn out or bring in service (inc rug changing) with prior agreement on particular days - say Mon to Fri mornings OR afternoons, so owner has to only come once a day.
In some cases could poss include mucking out, but then to me this then becomes part livery.

Thanks thats what i thought! Out of interest how much would you expect that to be each month?

That very much depends on where you are really!
Round here in NW Surrey DIY can be from £15 - £30pw (just for stable & grazing).
I'd add up to £3 per day for the assisted bit - catching/rugs/feeding. (and for the ones who like to shoot down, yes I know it could be less, but I suggest budgeting for £3 & be happy if it IS less!)

:)

Also in Surrey. My assisted DIY includes a bring in or turn out, feed/hay. If its a bring in its also a full finish off which can be very handy. The price includes all your hay - very generous and always encouraged to take as much as you need. It also includes trailer parking. £235pcm. Yard has lots of facilities too.

I charge £50 per week and for that it includes feeding am and rug changing and turning out and just letting in pm- no rug changing or putting to bed. We are near Hartley Wintney in Hampshire and have school etc.

My yard has flat rate livery costs of £25 a week DIY. This includes all year turnout, stable, large outdoor school, use of XC course, Jumping paddock, 3 mile gallops and the horse walker.

Everything else has a price tag so you can tailor make your own livery.

Monday to Friday...
x1 Turnout £1.50
x1 Bring in £1.50
Rug change 50p
Hang a hay net and water bucket filled £50p
Chuck a feed bucket in 50p
stand with the farrier or vet £5
use if the indoor school £5 for 1 hr
Skip out £2
Muck out put £5
Worm your horse for you £3

If any of the above are done on a Sat or Sun then the charges are doubled!!

We have a flat rate for feed and turnout and bring in in winter. They change the rug am but you have to pay extra for a pm change and feet picked. They will also hang a haynet and chuck in a ball.

In summer they are fed, sprayed, if needed mask put on and waters are checked. They are then fed and sprayed, mask removed if you want them to.

I also have two days full livery. I think assisted DIY should be at least, feed and t/o with rug change or the other end of the day, bring in, change rug and put in feed.

I am lucky in that I have very flexible livery - I tend to stick to a routine but have assisted, no or full livery depending on which day of the week it is.

I take Assisted DIY as being DIY but with help available if needed (whether it be the odd bring on or a weeks full livery if i go away). i pay a flat DIY rate and then everything else is on top. Usually £2 for bring in/ turnout and around £8 for full livery per day.

Where I keep my horse 'Assisted DIY' means that the horse is fed and turned out in the morning and the owner is responsible for bringing in and finishing off in the evening. (Although in the depths of winter they do tend to bring them in for us but not change any rugs etc). Basically this is reversed if the owner does their bit in the morning. Owners are wholly responsible for their horses at the weekends.

I'm in Cumbria and pay £33 per week for this assisted DIY which also includes unlimited haylage (it's a farm and they make their own) and use of school. Full livery is £5/day extra and tbh the liveries just mainly help each other out with extra bits of chucking in feeds/haynets/bringing in etc.

My idea of assisted diy is pure diy where the yard owner will help out when needed and charge extra for this.

I pay 33.50 a week on diy for stable, ad lib haylage (which is excellent stuff grown by themselves on the farm) plus use of all facilities including xc course.

The liveries do it all themselves or between themselves or owner will do it for small extra prices.
