This is our first season competing BD, starting at the start at prelim.
It took a while to even hit a 60% score, thanks to my rather quirky, kronky horse lol but we made it to summer areas and we made it to the Associated Champs in the part bred Arab section which was a goal of mine.
I know some people say about the qualifying scores being low and easy to achieve but for starters it wasn't easy for me to begin with, I wasn't sure if we could achieve it and secondly I guess it's so it helps the numbers of those who may compete at the champs, these things do need the numbers of entries and support to run.
I was all prepped, stable booked for the night in case we were on early (it's a 2 3/4hr journey) but in the end our time was 3.48pm so we made a lovely day trip of it to Bury Farm. We were super lucky with the weather and our stable - thankfully not one of the temps, they looked a bit damp under foot! Having the stable makes it way more enjoyable as he's not one to stand quietly on the box for endless amounts of time, he got to chill out and we got to sit in the warmth of the café lol!
Won't lie I was nervous about the warm up as that can be where my horse tests my stickability! And whilst the arena was large there were a fair few in it and due to surface water it was feeling smaller (no chance of my lad getting his feet wet lol) But after one minor moment right at the start where I needed to apologise to a couple of people I got myself into gear and 'rode'. Bless his soul he was on the same page and would say probably one of our best warm ups at what is one of the biggest competitions we've been at.
We were in the outdoor arena for our test so suited us fine. Test was sweet, as always plenty to work on for the future and in fact he needed to be more forward and sharper off the aids but bar 1 spook we rhythmically completed our test for a very pleasing score of 64.48%. A lovely comment on the sheet of 'a nice calm attitude' has provided everyone that knows him with a giggle as probably wouldn't be the first choice of words lol.
Not only did we get our plaque and pro pic but a rosette too having placed 7th. I want to say there was 11 in our section which was miniscule compared to the native classes which were off the scale huge! The day was very well run, I went in bang on time. Some may say the atmosphere wasn't quite championship level? There was no commentary for the outdoor arenas but actually I'm not complaining as that probably helped my nerves that it felt lovely and relaxed. Also everyone was very nice which helps make for a much more enjoyable day.
Rather proud of my horse as it has been debatable at times whether any thing would be possible but we have been working hard and spending all the money keeping him as happy and healthy as possible. So with that bit of luck chucked in we managed it and he has 2 plaques on his stable and I have more pro pics filling my house up much to my husbands joy.
I guess if we can keep up with the hard work and luck maybe next year we could contend the novice class!
