i've just started grooming for a couple of event riders and we started our season at the Unaff at Aston Le Walls on friday where i learned (im pretty new to BE and have never been to aston before) that should the plans for the HS2 rail link from birmingham to london go ahead aston will be closed down as it is planned to run right through the middle of it :( this is such a shame - we had a lovely day out everything was run on time, the course was beautiful and i can see deffinate training opportunities there, the staff/voulenteers were lovely and accomodating it would be such a shame to loose such a nice event and even more so as it is so close to us!! is there a petition or anything that needs more signatures? or is this a lost cause?

If its going ahead it has to go somewhere.I dont think the fact that ALW is an eventing venue will make the slightest difference.
As I understood it the railway will be on a viaduct actually over the course.
I am sure Nigel will find somewhere else to develop.

i do hope so, i didnt mean that the fact that it held events would stop them building it but just wondered if there was a petition, i guess wherever it goes some one looses something and there will be someone who disagrees!

In other news, I bet your glad you were there on Friday. I've just left Aston, resembling something of a drowned rat :(

oh dear!! poor you we had glorious sunshine yesterday for the most parts but it was VERY windy!! i was videoing one of our youngsters dressage tests so his owener could watch and kept loosing the horse because i caould barely stand up in the wind! i even burnt my face! but im pretty sure it was wind burn not sun burn! did you have a successful day despite the weather?

I think it's shocking that anyone would think in this current economical climate that spending the amount of money they say it will cost (and no doubt will cost more by the end) is a good idea all for people to arrive 15mins earlier! Aston le walls is a fab venue and will be a great shame if they do have to close.

It was a lovely day yesterday when we went to walk the course, typical!
I wasn't competing today, just grooming for a friend who wS taking two of her horses together for the first time. She withdrew one altogether & pulled the other out of the XC, with smallish studs it just wasn't worth risking the run.
Saw plenty of determined people nursing their horses round though, and I must say I have a new found respect for those that event!
Hopefully everyone that did run their horses got round safely.

Below is a link to the petition against the new HS2 railway. HS2 was given the go - ahead in January, but there are at least two legal challenges underway and no environmental impact assessment has taken place yet. Still plenty of opportunity for the Government to do another U turn on this!

it was lovely yesterday day and am really looking forward to the season ahead! i probably wont be saying that in a few weeks time!
i will sign the peition it may do little or no good but atleast its something :D i too hope all those tackling the course today got round safely, what classes were on today? was it the 80?

It's not over yet! www.stophs2.org. The Government has ignored the national public consultation results and wasting Billions on this vanity project. What you need to do is spread the word - everywhere you can. Not enough people outside of the areas affected know about it. Get on facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/VictimsofHS2/ get on Twitter, bore everyone to death going on about it. http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/news/397/303460.html

There are thousands of us fighting this already but we need your help!
