Can anybody please help by pointing me in the direction of some course photos for the Intermediate track at this event. I live a LONG way from Aston, but due to lack of events at this level in my area I am considering making a trip down south to this event. I have a young horse and I need to make sure the course is not a really difficult Intermediate.

Any help is much appreciated :)

You could try eventingworldwide.com or the British Eventing Course Photos page on Facebook :) Good luck! Look forward to the report when you go :D

Thanks Sarah Jane. Your website is really good for course photos. I will try and take some pictures this year for you of Scottish events that I will be going to.

Megan - thanks for your help. Not sure I am brave enough to write an event report on this public forum!! People on here make me rather nervous :)

Aston is a nice flat, venue so you don't have gradients to add to your difficulties - although they have built some manmade banks etc... They are meticulous about the ground, and if it is at all hard they SJ on their nice, big outdoor arena. The courses vary but it has a reputation for being a "step up" event at all levels (as in horses which have just stepped up rather than those which are ready to :p) and I believe Nigel designs accordingly. I have frequently taken first-time internediates to Aston, in the expectation that they will be educated without being frightened :)

Thanks help always welcome, people have been great this year particularly as I have added 120 courses this year alone.

Looking forward to the report (we are a lovely lot really ;) )

Hi!

I did ALW Intermediate in May, and it was my first Int.

I'd say it was a really appropriate first intermediate, the main combinations were a water complex early on, which was only really a bigger Novice water complex.

There were some angled houses on one stride which caused no real issues.

There was a hedge to corner combination on a straight line which again caused no real problems unless you weren't committed to the 4.

Then probably the trickiest combination was a double of hedges on 3/4 strides over extremely undulating ground, which was across a manmade mound.

There was a coffin that was one stride between all elements, which caused no real issues. The second water was a brush above a drop, which was pretty friendly.

The second to last was a reasonably tricky fence, which was two steps on a bounce stride up, then 4 strides back down the mound to a skinny.

I felt like there were enough combinations for it to seem reasonably difficult and worthwhile, but it was pretty friendly and do-able too! If you are in Scotland though, it would be a huge commitment to come down, and I don't know whether I would do it or not, unless I was really desperate.

Thank you Golden Match. Yes ordinarily I would never venture that far south! Unfortunately my horse was on box rest for 7 weeks from February and only got fit again at the end of May. Then I proceeded to get myself jumped off and broke my collar bone at our first XC schooling session

So basically I am desperate to get this horse up to Int/Two star this season, but the man upstairs seems to have it in for me right now!!
