Contemplating entering the BE90 on a ticket but the only time I've been to Aston previously (grooming), the SJ ring was very spooky with flags at the entrance. I've had a look at some BE90 SJ vids on YouTube and the arena and fences look fairly plain in those - so I'm wondering if the event I went to (over a year ago, U/A) had the SJ in a different arena to usual? I'm not at all familiar with the venue but know that it has extensive facilities.

Can anybody shed any light on how spooky the arenas are normally? Would be my first ever BE on a young, green horse. The jumping isn't an issue but other distractions can be.

Thanks in advance!

I'd say it's relatively spooky with music playing, people on all sides of the arena flags sometimes on one side. It is a lovely venue though and worth the trip :)

Hi, the SJ always used to be in the top arena with white railings and there are flag poles either side of the gateway so when it's windy the flag ropes chink against the poles making a kind of rattling noise. It didn't cause as many problems as you'd imagine though. BUT they've since put in a load more surface and now run the SJ in one of the new arenas which is away from the flag poles - with the SJ warm up arena on one side, field on the other side, the road behind a hedge on the third side and the hardstanding parking area on the fourth side. :-) Worth the trip - an easier SJ ring than those summer events which put the arena in the middle of the marquees!! :-D

I can't remember thinking it was particularly spooky when I went their earlier this year. Possibly less spooky than the ones where the trade stands etc surround the SJ? But plenty of people and horses milling about. SJ and DR on a surface but consider ground with a green baby, Aston drains well I believe but so does tweseldown and it was soaked today so hopefully weather will hold out.
