Astro-turf , any one have any ?

Just made the decision to do away with half of my lawn and put astro-turf down, fed up of muddy paws , too expensive to do the whole lawn but with the patio and a 4 metre patch of fake grass the dogs will still get outdoor play when it is wet , the rest of lawn can be rested and repaired , fenced off untill the summer , only trouble is now we have decided to do it i want it done now ! but there's alot of work involved , chap i spoke to from the company said they have had a lot of dog people enquiries lately , anyone else got any or thinking of having some ?
 
I would LOVE this! It's the ideal solution - always looks nice, no mud, no mowing, cleans itself when it rains, no weeds! Our lawn is in a pretty poor state - we aren't gardeners so I don't really know what to do with it. I met a lady years ago who had this done and at the time I thought it was strange - now I have dogs I think it's a genius idea! No idea how much it would cost though - astro turf will surely be more expensive than other types are artificial grass.
 
My sister has made the decision to do hers, her grass lawn is on a slope and she has a collie cross who is constantly racing down it and doing handbrake turns at the bottom. It is due to be done in April, but as a typical small housing estate lawn it isn't very big and the cost is £2k eek!
 
I do. We put astro turf down in our garden. Some of the best money spent. Our is primarily for the boys play on and they love it. Use garden all year round. Dog never poos or wees on it, does that on the real grass; although never really thought of it in terms of dog before. Best thing is looks fab all year round instead of scrubby mud patch. Had ours for about 7 years and still looking good. It is tiger turf.
 
we did our whole garden with premium fake turf. It is SUPERB!

We have three dogs and now the garden stays tidy and the dogs stay clean, no more muddy foot prints in the house (we have a dog flap so they have 24/7 access outside).

Only downside is that it does smell a little in summer but the company have informed us they now recommend a different underlay that has addressed this issue.

Will post a photo later when i get home.

I been thinking of this too as the dog has carved a race track in the muddy boggy what was lawn...

it is a rabbit hutch, was taking photos of it to sell. If you mean do the dogs bother with the other animals then no. Loki in the photos is a bit wuss, if one of the cats is sleeping on his big bed he just sits there crying, wont move them! They dont pay a blind bit of notice to the chickens, ducks or parrot too. In fact all the dogs are nervous of the parrot!

Forgot to say in my last post that the fake lawn is like having carpet in the garden, it's brilliant in summer you can just lie on it as it's really comfy and also not worry about getting dirt on you.

I will try to dig out the before and after photos I have somewhere.
 
plenty of positive's for fake grass then , just wish i had done it sooner, still going to have plenty real grass for my agility course , do love the smell of a freshly mown lawn but if we get another summer like last year i will flip if i can't find a solution to the mud ;)
 
Yep. Got our 10x10m lawn done for £3k installed with turf removed. Well worth paying installation as it took them 2 days and is about 4 layers, involves sealing edges as lawn comes in rolls like carpet. And then you get a guarantee too. We have 2 gsps who ruined our lawn. Now it's amazing!
 
I just managed to bag myself an offcut (around 3 metres by 1 metre) from the Artificial Lawn Company when they were at Crufts. They did it for £30! They seem to have some good deals and are selling offcuts of ebay- which may be a cheaper way to go. Their luxury lawn was the most expensive but I couldn't stop feeling it on their stand! :p It definitely looks and feels like real grass- though I did settle for a cheaper alternative in the end. I would recommend them. :)

We had the whole garden done in their luxury lawn, it really is nice :D

Had ours down a good 4 years now. Once a year my father jet washes it all and this year it is due for a sand top up to help keep the strands upright.

Must admit it is nice to look out the window and always see a perfect green lawn, especially in winter!

I just have a yard so mine is just to lay down in the corner so not needing to lay it properly as you would as a lawn replacement. If I ever buy a house with a nice garden I will definitely be getting the luxury lawn! ;)
 
PMP that is amazingly convincing :eek:

I don't own my lawn or have a dog now but when I do I will remember this. Who knew you could do this. Much better than picking moss out of real grass all the blinking time!

And quite apart from the environmental concerns, I can't imagine the horror of trying to clean up after dogs when all you have for them to use is artificial grass:eek:

Im house hunting currently and so many seem to have solely patio or astro turf and that'd be straight out, rather not spend my time hosing down any runny poos ?
 
We've just had it done so our dogs can have more garden time. They've been fenced off the real lawn since September and it still looked like a bad winter turnout field. All I can say is I wish we'd done it sooner. We've plenty of plants left round the sides and bird feeders etc so still doing our bit, and as for cleaning up, runny poo needs sorting whether real grass, fake grass or concrete - it's not a pleasant job whatever you're cleaning it from.
