Any miracle cures out there for when both suncream and Sudocrem fails you??

Any ideas appreciated, we have a bit of a sore nose at the minute, and limited stable access :(

A nose net on the head collar should help.

Aloe vera and propolis cream which is soothing and healing.
 
Take a trashed fly sheet. Cut a piece the size you need to cover the affected area and attach with velcro to the noseband of field safe headcollar. No more sunburn, no more worries.
 
My boy has a v pink nose and he got burnt at the beginning of summer. To clear it up he was coated in Sudocream twice a day. We changed his turnout to overnight. His muzzle healed within a week and thereafter when I ride him he has high factor suncream on but when he goes out in the evening and it is still sunny he has Gold Label Sunguard on. It is really thick and sticks well. We have had no more burnt nose since. Are you rubbing the sudocream in or just slathering it on, this is what worked for me.
 
E45 do a factor 50 cream which is water and rub proof.

Sudocream will not prevent sunburn, quite the opposite.
 
I stopped putting anything on Nugz nose - he's not burnt since (3 years ago). I worked out he seemed to burn more when I put stuff on and he either licked it off, or it came off anyway (judging by the streaks, a nose wipe across my other horse). A couple of horses on the yard currently have success with nose nets.

This is something we are considering - I don't honestly know. It's only affected over the last week really, which coincides with the very hot weather... as such I assumed it was sunburn. It's only affected the pink part of his nose (he has a wide stripe), the rest of his skin is dark. Every other sunburned nose I've dealt with has cleared up pretty quickly with the use of Sudocrem, but his seems to be getting worse rather than better. Perhaps a reaction... but I'm not sure what to use instead? He's not had any change in products, other than the use of suncream / Sudocrem.

I have bought a nose net which is now in use (providing the b*gger keeps it on!), but I can't decide the best plan of attack to heal it over? He despises having his nose messed with, so it's difficult to get anything really rubbed in.

I house/horse sat for another HHO member last weekend, and she uses Filtabac on her pink noses. I was really impressed with how well it stayed on, and it's also supposed to be very good for healing. I'm ordering some for my lot - have one pink nose, and one who is tortured by willy flies!
 
It might be Photosensitivity, not just plain old sunburn. Liver problems can cause over sensitivity to sunlight, Hopefully its just sunburn but just consider it.
 
This is exactly the time of year, last year that my boy's photosensitivity started up on his white legs.

Do you feed alfalfa? It's one of the things that the Vet has got me to cut from his diet. Plus I've had to be really tough on the weeds in the grazing incase it's something in the field that he was eating that contributed to the photosensitivity.

That's interesting... he's fed Hifi Original, so yes, he does have alfalfa. However saying that, it's the same diet he has always had, and his previous owner (who's owned since birth) says he's not had any issues upto now? Grazing is well maintained and pretty weed-free, he has 3 white socks and his legs haven't been affected. Do you still think photosensitivity is a possibility?
 
Yes, it's a possibility. For some reason my boys face marking was unaffected and that was the first year he ever had it.

I hope it isn't though, as despite £800 of vet bills it didn't clear up until the start of winter and was very painful for him.
 
If sunburn, try pizbuin factor 50. Has worked on our pink noses.
Buttercups can also cause it,should the few weeds you do have include them. Full face mask including nose protection, or just nosenet as others suggest may help.
 
Photosensitivity or an allergy are both possibilities. One of mine had awful sunburn every year in spite of all sun blocks, then I discovered it was an allergy.
However, changing his diet has improved things, as has trying out a new sunblock.

Filtabac is brilliant. Soothes and protects, best thing I've found. I put a really thick coat on. Equilibrium do a nose shield too but i still think you need something under it.
 
i have a grey with a pink nose - full face fly mask works a treat and saves me messing with her face with cream and stuff and she's never burnt and out 24/7
 
What about muzzling during the day? No point if she is a hat rack but it will keep the worst of the sun off a pink nose? An unexpected pleasant side effect of keeping my mare muzzled is no sunburn and therefore no suntan lotion needed and therefore one less battle (she hates scented creams and potions)
 
I too have a pony with a pink nose that gets terribly burnt. I have given up with lotions and potions, nothing stays on, if I can get it on him. I have a long cashel fly mask (http://www.flymasks.co.uk/) which is brilliant. Its the only one that he will keep on (I have tried many!!) and his nose is perfectly pink this year where as last year with sun creams and sudocrem it was a scabby sore mess. I have found that it gets worse when he is in a field with buttercups, I think they are well known to cause photosensitivity.
 
I haven't had sunburn problems with mine since I started supplementing zinc. And that is in a field with buttercups - although I do bring them in out of the flies during the hottest part of the day.
 
Aniwell Filtabac - great for sweet itch sores as well. Also aloe vera gel - as high a concentration as you can find. I would also put a nose net on him for a week or two and see if that helps.

Why does sudocream have the opposite effect? It is a sunblock, and stays on?
I use sudocream on one of ours that has pink skin all over- She has a fly rug, equilibrium mask with nose guard and sudocream on the nose/muzzle that is not covered by the noseguard (especially as she likes to push the 'peak' in the opposite direction, exposing all her pink bits!!!)- She has not had sunburn.
