At What age do GSD's become sexually active?

Bitches can come into their first season as young as six months.

Dogs however are a completely different kettle of fish. If a male is kept low enough in the pack order he will not become sexually active. Only the top dogs get to breed.

If you carry out the Nothing In Life Is Free principle he will learn that he is at the bottom of the pack and that he depends upon you for everything. As he learns he is at the bottom of the pack he will not hump anything.

mines a male, however he must be top dog as he's suddenly decided it'll be fun to hump everything in site! So how do I put him to the bottom of the pack? Or is it too late???

i have known 4 months old pups sire a litter so sexual maturity can start very young indeed. (and incidentally has nothing to do with their position in the pack

) Individual dogs will be more or less dominant according to their temperament and in my experience you cannot artificially impose a pecking order within a pack of dogs - excepting of course that the owners must ALWAYS be the pack leader - the others will naturally find their own level. You can cause more fights if you try and relegate a dominant dog to 'the bottom of the pack' - observe the interaction between your dogs and you will see that they will naturally give way to the inherently dominant one - there may be some disruption at first and you should never tolerate actual fighting ( although at this stage there can be a lot of posturing and small 'spats') - once the new pack order is established you should go back to having a happy stable bunch of dogs. If you try and intervene by artificially keeping the dominant dog down then this will never be resolved and you will be in for a long rough ride !
