yeah same here, i thought that the classes were 18 + but they all seemed to have dropped. dont understand why though?
my old gal was no where near the age of your old lad, mine was 24 when she was PTS

just wondering but why depends on breed Jobo?

because things like natives tend to live longer and age slower than the bigger breeds

i really hope she gets to that ripe old age, even though i think her mental age will never get any greater than 3 lol.
she wasnt supposed to live to 13 let alone 15 so every year shes around is a blessing to me.

The veteran horse society considers a horse/pony to be a veteran from the age of 15. And as far as showing goes their age groups are pre veteran 15-19, veteran 20-24 and veteran plus 25 and over.

I got chicked out of a veterans class on my horse (24 at the time) because they wouldn't believe he was so old! Admittedly, he did take off with me twice and kept spooking and leaping... I think that for ponies, 20 and for horses 18.

It all depends on the horse! We're just bringing our almost eighteen year old mare back into work after having a foal May 2008 (only weaned at ten months) and she is on fire!!!! She's an ex-point-to-pointer and just loves her work. She's 100% sound and looks BRILLIANT! Just leading her in from the field is like leading her around the parade ring at a race meeting - she strides out and you have to lean against her to slow her down! She's not cut out for being a mum (can I alter Weatherbys listing of her as "broodmare", by the way?) and we can't wait for her to be fit again.....competing....hunting next season......

Then again, I know of horses who are "old" at 16.....
