Hello peeps i was wondering if you could help.

I'm just away to purchase a colt foal who will be weaned end of november beginning of december.

I was just wondering at what age would it be ok to geld? I would like to maybe get it done asap. I have had a colt before and i think he was 8 months old when i got him done.

Any help ideas would be gladly appreciated.

If he has all the necessary bits to remove, I'd do it asap. I've had two done - one I bought as a yearling and had him done straight away, and one as a nine month old foal, and ditto. I'd rather forestall those coltish tendancies before they develop, and it means what's removed is fairly under developed and is less traumatic for them. With my nine month old, he was back cantering around the field the next day!

Have a word with your vet though - they like to do it when there aren't too many flies about, so they may want to wait til September/October, although the weather we're having here is positively autumnal anyway!

Good luck with the new one, and we want lots of pics!
