At what age would you first attempt to bandage legs? My yearlings has 2 white stockings and 2 white socks and her back legs are quite dirty by the time we get to a show. Be a lot easier to keep them clean by bandaging them for the journey!

i think you will be fine to bandage with thick gamgee and fleecy bandages at her age.

is she used to having boots on? if not, just be aware that getting them off at the show ground may be slightly exciting!

No she hasn't had boots on. I think the plan would be to get them off in the trailer before i unload her (from the other side of the partition for the back ones).

The first time I bandaged my youngster's legs was because of a nasty wound on a front cannon bone that needed dressing. I can't remember how old he was (I suspect around 2), but he forciblyl removed said bandage with his teeth. And when I tried a brushing boot to keep the dressing on, he tore that apart as well. He is a bit of a humbug though

Oh thats a point but i think i could bandage her a couple of times as practise and see what she does. I wouldn't leave them on overnight, just bandage her before loading her when her legs are lovely and white!

Putting the bandages on is often not the problem..... it's getting them off at your destination

The neoprene turnout socks which go down over the coronet band are perfect for keeping legs clean. They're not quite as good as bandages, but almost, and so much less fuss to put on and take off with a baby

I bandaged Muppets as a yearling for the same reason - she was really chilled though, and I just tied her to the box and took them off - it was like she had always worn them, bless her!

what about stable boots to start with to get her used to them premier equine do some and a few of the other brands do. I just think they are easier to get on as a youngster that doesnt want/likeboots on or hasnt had them on before is often interesting to ge thtem on for a while!!

I've always practised lots at home until it's second nature to them; you can't beat homework but even then with the excitement of being at a party might upset them so just be aware and ready for anything!

Ditto the practicing at home first. I brushing boots and thermatex wraps to get my 3yo used to having things on his legs. As an early 2yo he was wearing travelling boots no probs. He only travelled 4 times as a yearling and as an early 2yo was to move home. He'd not had anything on his legs since the previous summer.

Bandaged my yearling at home a couple of times just to get him used to them. Didn't faze him at all so progressed to boots and again didn't bother him. When travelling to a 'party' I bandage for the way there and boot up for the way home as it is easier to put boots on in a rarified atmosphere.
