At what size does a paddock become a field? Debate with OH

I call anything less than an acre a paddock, OH says "they all have grass in, therefore they are fields regardless of size" Opinions please, then I can tell him "HHO says............" (with an apology if necessary) Thankyou

Nah I'd say anything under 4 acres is a paddock......isn't the definition actually something to do with the fencing and location to the stables rather than the size of land though? Or am I talking out of my bottom??

I tend to call them all fields. But my 5 acre field is divided up with electric fences so i suppose the paddocks are in the field

So, you could have 1000 acre space as along as it was post and rail (god, think of the cost) it would be a paddock?
 
I suppose a paddock is a type of field, in the same way as a bungalow is a type of house and an inglenook is a type of fireplace. I always thought a paddock was a small field near to buildings. Don't know of this helps:

Chex nighttime "field" is about 9 acres, his day "paddock" is about 1.5 acres, so I would say less than 2 acres is a paddock

I have no idea. I live in Herefordshire, no never seen a field larger than 2/3 acres with post and rail.
The farmers round here are far to tight to shell out £1000's on fencing!

and all the fields/paddocks are within 100m of the barn doors, so paddocks then by general consensus.
Two of them haven't even got rails yet, just 100's of flaming posts. We've spent the last 2 days putting them in.
Ah ha, I have gates, lots of them, they have just arrived. better go out and look as if I haven't really snuck on here for a few minutes.
 
A field is a piece of land suitable for tillage or pasture or a piece of inclosed land.
A paddock is an inclosure under pasture usually adjoining a house.

Just thought you may like to know what the dictionary thinks!

Me paddocks have always been small turnout areas next to the yard, fields are all the other fields.

I think everyones ideas are different.
 
Well I personally refer to my largest section of grazing as the field whereas the bits Ive split up with fencing are called the paddocks. I think of a field as being large whereas a paddock is small, like an acre or 2.

We dont have hedges up here or much wooden rails so vicijp's opinion doesnt work up here!

If you ever look through how estate agents descirbe land, they tend to describe a small patch of land ie 1/2 acre a 'pony paddock' anything usually there after they call pasture land.
 
Technically paddocks then. This is how close they are to the house and barns, with more on the other side of the house and two big sections on the other side of the exercise track.
